Day 22 Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey to Home Thursday February 8, 2018

A short ride today in sunny but cold - 26 degrees - weather found us getting back to the homestead.

We even had a welcoming committee - look close to see the birds of a different feather.

Home again - what is wrong with this picuture? Ah yes - snow
It was a great trip - fun and informative. Hard to believe that in three months we will be headed out on the Great Loop!!!  TTFN

Day 21 Virginia Beach to Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey Wednesday February 7, 2018

Day 21  Virginia Beach to  Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey Wednesday February 7, 2018

Where the heck is Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey you ask. I don't know either - but click the link below to find out.

Today was a long but nice drive. The day started out with washed out sun. We drove across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. The stopping area was closed much to my displeasure thus we took the shots below from the moving car.

I didn't tell Faye we were doing tunnels on this route so she couldn't say "Not that way Mister!"

So let's do a review of last night's quiz. This shot was sunset so we are looking?   No, No No - West!!!
So the shot below is of sunrise while traveling on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. So we are looking -which direction?  Very good. North.

Just kidding, the eastern sky held promise for a nice day, but the dark clouds to the west held all the cards. While crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge the temperature was 50 degrees. But the time we arrived at the upper Chesapeake Bay at noon it was 34 degrees and raining with a breeze - brrrrrrrrrrr.

We looked at two Carver 53 boats. One was rough and one was nice. Proving to us that there will be a nice one when we are ready to pull the trigger.

After lunch and boat looking we traveled in rain and finally snow to NJ. We will be able to make it home tomorrow without too long a day.
I know that the above picture is of a few inches of snow - but how it felt having been in tee shirt and shortly was like it had snowed ten feet! Boy did we get spoiled in a hurry.

Day 20 Beaufort SC. to Virginia Beach Tuesday February 6, 2018

Day 20  Beaufort SC. to Virginia Beach Tuesday February 6, 2018

Today dawned sunny and colder - 42 degrees while I was standing outside the hotel to get the morning shot below. But it is sunny and February - will warm up real soon - even at home.

We had long drive today to Virginia Beach. About 9 hours including stops. VAB is really quite

The most people here are the thirteen would be surfers trying to catch a big ride on a small wave. Look hard, most of them there.

Dinner at the nearby Sam's was good casual food. I had some great fried oysters - yum
The inlet shown in the third photo leads into the marina basin shown in the above look from the restaurant and below from the charter fishing boat docks
Sunset from our balcony looking which direction?  Yes you are correct - West!!
Also in that direction is the Oceana Naval Air station. With fighter jets taking off at regular intervals. They do not make any attempts to hold down the noise!! Afterburners anyone? Light 'em if you have 'em boys.

Day 19 St Augustine to Beaufort SC. Monday February 5, 2018

Day 19  St Augustine to Beaufort SC. Monday February 5, 2018

Today was sunny - but cool. Yesterday afternoon turned cold and rainy - felt like Maine!!.

It was not as windy so the temperatures felt pretty good.

We traveled the AIA route to northern FLA. I even managed to get a boat ride across the St John's river.

The ferry passing in front of us while we watched from the restaurant at lunch

We made it to Beaufort SC. It is the quintessential southern town. It seems to have been "discovered" as my back road scenic drive ran into a traffic (minor compared to Boston I will admit) snarl.

The pictures below are from the revamped waterfront - can't wait to get on the move this spring!!!!

The picture below was taken on our way back to the car after dinner. It was cold - We both put on the car seat warmers (yes Lauren I mean butt - tom warmers)

Day 18 Daytona Beach to St Augustine Sunday February 4, 2018

Day 18 Daytona Beach to St Augustine Sunday February 4, 2018

Sydney stayed with us overnight at the hotel. She and Nana even braved the cold temp (58 - yes I know relative to NH it seems balmy) and wind to visit the Hot Tub the evening before. I stayed in the room taking care of Thumper (see previous post). They were not gone long.

Thumper and his sleeping buddy got to sleep in.

We met Jenn for breakfast and then went to see their house.

It is a great place.

Sydney even has a chandelier in her bedroom - see?

And you can never forget your roots
See the Moody's Dinner Recipe book?

Our visit included a walk to the nearby Publix and Dollar Trees stores to buy material to make "slime" It is a cool modern day "silly putty."

We then headed north to St Augustine to settle in to watch the Pats beat the Eagles - but the Pats defense did not get the memo - so we will not need to go to Boston to stand in the freezing cold to wave to most of the players that we don't recognize. How is that for spin - I still got it. And to think I used to get paid for it - such a deal.

Day 17 Daytona Beach Saturday February 3, 2018

Day 17 Daytona Beach Saturday February 3, 2018

Today is Sydney Girl day. A visit with her and mom Jenn.

The day was cloudy but not bad - good day for a theme park.
I will let you guess which one.

Here's a hint.

Got it yet?
How about now?

We had a great day. I even got to Papa sit Thumper for a while.

Hoping that next year when we are down here that rest of grandkids can visit for a trip to the Magic Kingdom and the like

Day 16 Daytona Beach Friday February 2, 2018

Day 16 Daytona Beach Friday February 2, 2018

Sunny and in the upper sixties and lower seventies - not a bad day - back home was 5 degrees!!

Today was boat looking day in the Palm Coast area. The first boat was a PAMA 54 and the second was a Mckinna 57. The PAMA was a work of art. The fit and finish would be well received in the finest of homes - but it was not comfortable.

The Mckinna was lower on the scale for fit and finish - actually below Carver in my opinion- and also was not overly comfortable.

And both boats had the kiss of death - a cluttered cockpit to interfere with the view from the lounge chairs for the Admiral - the PAMA with  big forward facing seat and table - who wants to look into the boat you just came out of - and the McKinna had a built in grill to block the view

This boat looking has been good to affirm that while it might look good in a photo you need to get on board to tell what one is really like.
