June 06 to 22, 2020 Robinhood and Boothbay Area Maine.

Since the last post have been enjoying the almost instant arrival of summer. I'm not  complaining that the weather is warm, but it would have been nice to have a little ease in transition from cold spring to summer rather than being like someone flipped "the summer" switch.

A southern friend has asked that I provide lots of photos of the "cool" Maine weather to help him through the hot and humid Alabama summer days. And I always like to post photos so here is a good size pant-load of the them.

Here are a few more shots of Robinhood. It really is one of the prettiest marinas in Maine and anywhere else for that matter.  Look closely and you can see the osprey in the nest a top the day beacon - been a nest there for as long as I can remember.

Looking across the docks at Perelandra

Low tide is always a interesting vision.

There are some very salty boats in the marina as you can see below

Slight fog over the basin before night fall.

And a wonderful bright start to the day taken from the cockpit.

We received word that we could have grandkids Lauren and Bree come for a visit - Ya Baby! So we headed home to prepare. Here are just some of the requested "menu" items on the list that we received from the girls that Nana has gone and acquired.

And then the big day arrived. We have not seen the kids since December.
Here is Bree with the best part of the menu list.

And here is the first of many Tic Tac Toe games that I lost to the little sneaky one.

As there had been many a birthday that we had missed being in Florida and waiting out the virus, a big plan was to make several birthday cakes to cover all the needed make up cakes for a combined happy birthday event. Chocolate and Carrot Cakes were made. But we almost had a tragic event that was averted, when Nana forgot to get carrots for the cake. Papa saved the day by asking the day before 'Did you remember to get carrots?" Nana responded with "No, but we will stop during our trip to get the girls!"

And Lauren is our reader. A quiet time with "her trays" reading Harry Potter.

And even reading and getting in her elipter workout.

Nana has taught Bree Sudoku, and she is really a student of  the game.

A walk around the neighborhood is a good way to stretch our legs.

Ahhhhh, the carrot cake is ready!!!

And the next day Dad and Mom come to whisk away the girls, but not until a wonderful barbecue and feasting on all the great birthday cakes.

We head back to the boat and here is another shot of Robinhood Marina.

We are off the next day for our first trip from the marina and it is to our favorite spot to sit and take in the day - Boothbay Harbor. At the head of the harbor is a wonderful footbridge that has been in place since the beginning of last century

There is even a bridge house that I imagine was used by a bridge tender to open the manual swing bridge that is there. You can see it in the photo above.

Some photos from the bridge.

The footbridge in on the route that we take for our 5.3 mile out and back walk to Spruce Point that is on the east side of Boothbay harbor.

A wonderful landmark on the east side is the Catholic Church. There are bells and chimes that play during the day and evening that are most pleasant.

Here is the "butt" tree. Think the reason for the name is self evident.

And even the big man is wearing a mask for the virus.

I love sea roses. They are attractive, but the smell is heavenly.

Our walk includes a wonderful interlude through the wood near the end of Spruce Point.

And once through the woods we are on the grounds of the Spruce Point Inn. It is real quiet here. No out-of-staters (gladly except NH and VT residents) are allowed to get a room unless they then quarantine for 14 days. Now that would be a vacation - sure.  So you can see why there is a dearth of folks out and about.

But the coast line here is still amazing. We marvel at the view every time we take our walk.

And this is for Lauren.  See - they know the right name for lobster pots here - Bogies!!

And a few shots of the trip back to Robinhood

We needed to go home for a few things again. On our way we drove through the waterfront of Portland. Here is looking out to the main harbor anchorage areas.

This is Fort Gorges that was built to defend this important harbor. When we boated out of Portland we on occasion landed and toured around the place- it is most interesting.

And do you know the slogan "Remember the Maine." This is a cannon recovered from the USS Maine that was a States Navy ship that was sunk in Havana Harbor in February, 1898

And upon our return to Maine a number of restaurants have re-opened. Here is dessert from Moody's dinner - Yum.

And here is the center of Boothbay - hardly a soul. The virus will ruin the tourist season for Maine.

And in Boothbay on the boat on a perfect evening.

So it must be time to say "Good Night and May God Bless"
