Note to self. Next year do not make any doctor or dentist appointments between May and September.
Both of us have been guilty of that this year and we found that in general when we were home for appointments the weather has been nice and when we could get to the boat the weather was less than perfect. Oh Well.
So the blog post below is a catch up of time on the boat so far.
One day when on the boat and staying at the dock we visited the Arctic Museum at Bowdoin college. Admiral Peary, who was first to the north pole, attended Bowdoin and hence the connection.
The photos below are from the second floor gallery that overlooks the interesting display of animals that inhabit the frigid north.
The pictures fail to capture just how big most of this creatures are!!
An expedition ship hard aground. But it re-floated with the tide. There was no Coast Guard rescue if that didn't happen.
This amazing coat was made of tiny beads.
Interesting story. The mother Musk Ox was killed for food and the calf was captured with the intent of bring it back with the expedition, but it died along the way. They are big!!
The campus is really beautiful.
Any guesses as to their school mascot?
A peaceful evening at the dock.
As you can see, we did finally make it to Boothbay.
The main dock looks the same - and it will be full soon.
And the ice cream shop is still there!!
I wonder if any fisherman ask "Hey, that one's mine!"
Up until about seven years ago, there was a candle-pin bowling alley here that was sided to look like a log building
All that is left is the door to the back of the building
Here's what it looked like
I trust my boys remember the rainy days in Boothbay in which the bowling alley provided a great place to have some fun off the boat and out of the rain.
As things should be.
The newly re-decked footbridge completed last year is awaiting the summer hordes.
We are off for our walk to Spruce Point.
And back across the footbridge.
And finally here some photos of our walk around Clarey's Pond that is about a half a mile back up the marina road.
I wonder if Clarey is the beaver that made the dam seen below (and it is an amazing dam) and thus created the pond.
Well it is time to call it a night and get ready to go home tomorrow to be ready for a doctor appointment on Monday. And I am taking my note to self I mentioned above and pasting it on the refrigerator door.
So ..............
Good Night and May God Bless
