Day 8 August 4, 2017 Friday Somesville still
The day dawned slowly as the fog was hiding the sun. I could see above the mist that there was blue sky. It was time to get the Mavic up for some more interesting shots.
We decided that we wanted a hike but not a climb. We chose the Ship Harbor Nature Trail on the south of the island. It is near Bass Harbor Lighthouse. The Explorer bus was a fun ride. The fog had left us by the time we left to get the 9:41 bus. The shots below are from our waiting spot on Main St in the village.
The walk of the trail turned out to be far more enjoyable than I had imagined. The photos below are from the trail that runs along side the inlet - that I have to say would be hard pressed to contain a ship - but maybe possible at high tide. The hike was a nice mile and a half stroll and we decided we could still treat ourselves to lunch in Southwest Harbor.
Bass Harbor Lighthouse is just out of sight on the far point to the right of the picture |
After lunch Faye decided that desert was in order and we rode the bus back into Bar Harbor for ice cream. We then walked the harbor path to ease the slight guilt of our indulgences. It worked very well. The fog we noticed seemed to be coming in - and did it. The shot of the cruise ship with and without fog was only about five minutes apart!!! But it stayed over the water only.
The cruise ship above is still there! |
It is very nice here as you can see. We may just stay another day.
