Day 76 Back in the USA!!!! Bruce Mines to Sault Ste Marie Friday August 3, 2018

The sun did come up this morning clear and bright, but clouds hung to the east that blocked the sun for the first half of the morning. We really wanted the sun as the temperature at 7:00 am was 52 degrees. The clouds did move on and the temperatures rose to the lower 70s- still in shorts!!

The sun came up and we wanted to start reasonably early for Sault St Marie (the Soo as I have heard it called) and "going home" to the USA.

It was cold for quite a while but I still kept on the shorts.  We left Bruce Mines at around 8:00 and took the back route into the Soo. The ride of about 40 miles was very nice and we passed a number of lighthouses. You can see that the day was still cloudy.

We have just passed an entrance channel that connects to the main shipping channel to the west - and the US/Canada border runs through it and then northerly between these two points of land. So as we travel we are in either the USA or Canada.

Welcome to the USA!!

This shot is interesting for two reasons. The first is this large George Lake we have entered after being in river like conditions. Look close and see if my "I Spy" friends can tell what the other is. For a hint re read the text above.

We have reached the Soo and we are now in the main shipping channel. The shot below is the Canadian side that is much larger at 75,000 population versus 15,000 for the US side.

 Looking that the freighter Valley Camp, an old lake freighter,  docked as now a museum.

We docked at George Kemp marina. A nice facility. We will stay a second day so I will have photos of the town tomorrow. But one place I will show you from today is Antler's restaurant.

It is more famous for the interior decorating than the food, which was good.

Lions, Tigers and Bears OH MY!! Got another Wizard of Oz reference, eh? Now that we are back home guess I need to stop with the eh, eh?

It's time to go to bed for the first time in the USA in nearly two months, so time to say ..........

Oh wait - The answer to the "I Spy" is the US/Canada border runs between these two buoys so one is American (port side green) and one is the Canadian high spar design (starboard red). I thought that was too funny.
