The clouds were still hanging on but some breaks to start the day. Cloudy through most of day with showers then partial sun. Air was warm in low 70s. Not a bad day.

The day was a big one as we started the "river down" portion of our trip.
Going through Chicago - at rush hour (all the folks going to work) was a hoot!! We did about 36 miles with two locks.
Looking east out to Lake Michigan. We started early.

We waited only a few moments for the AMTRAK draw bridge to lift. This is once we turned south and left the area of the buildings.
We made it! You can see (if you look close) the height board shows more clearance than the 17'-6" commonly noted in guides. Looks like 18'-6"
An electric fish fence - so carp won't go into the Lake.

DeleteThanks for the sage advice. We have been looking and seen several deadheads that we have passed and noted a lot of trees in the shallow areas - one even in the middle of where we wanted to anchor. Not sure which is worse - dodging occasional tree and the like, or playing in the lobster pot fields of Maine - guess each place is unique.
