Day 135 Chattanooga to Pisgah Mountain Monday October 1, 2018

The sky had a few clouds to start and they were around all day - but sunny most of time.   Temperatures were low 60s to high 70s

Today we got a rental car that we will keep until Friday morning. The first part of the week we will spend in the Great Smokey Mountain area and do some hiking. We didn't get the car until noon so that we didn't need to turn it in until noon on Friday. This gave us late start to the travel to the mountain but it proved to be "just right."

The boat is all secure for our couple of travel days. The folks on the blue boat, John and Heidi promised to watch the boat for us.

If you recall our trip up the Little Tennessee took us up to the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains. I noted in the blog that there was a road along the spot where we anchored. And I speculated that it would be better to drive the road that goes by here and be able to continue up in to the mountains. While that is what we did today.  Here are several shots taken from the boat launch that you can see from the photos of our time anchored there.

The road that we are on is Route 129. You may recall it is named the Dragon Tail and for good reason. It is the most twists and turns I have ever experienced. It was fun to drive but there are many warnings to motorcycles about the accident danger. The interesting things is that Tennessee DOT just in the last year has closed the road to large and medium size trucks. A great thing as there is places that a trailer truck would have to take the whole road to get around the curve - hate to meet us a rig on a curve.

I spotted at one look out and the bikers there asked for me to take some photos - and they returned the favor.

We have reservations at the Pisgah Inn for two nights. We got there just as night fell and the clouds began to swallow up the mountain top. Dinner at the on site restaurant was excellent and this is the view on the way back to our room.

And as you can see the sun has set on a fine day so it time to say ....................
