Day 159 Mobile 2nd day Thursday October 25, 2018

Can you say "Rain?" There was a good amount over night and periods of rain today.

The day was a wonderful one to be tied up in a marina. Rain came in over night and was heavy at times in the night. It rained most of the day. It stopped enough for me to wash the boat and for the crews of Knights Kingdom and Perelandra to walk to the Mobile Yacht Club and return before another shower. Dinner was wonderful at the MYC.

During the day the four of us went shopping and to lunch. The girls found an Ulta and the boys a Fastenal. We all found Walmart. So since you have likely been in one if not all of these stores, I did not take any pictures today.

But here a few that maybe interesting.  AND there is a special addition to today's blog - you have to read all of the following to get it.

From last night's dinner here are the girls - Admiral Justine from Knights Kingdom on the left and Admiral Faye from Perelandra on the right. Been wonderful meeting up with them and traveling the last of the rivers to Mobile together.

Walking back from our dinner tonight we noticed that the water is much higher than we have seen it the last day. There is an easterly wind blowing across the Mobile Bay and at the peninsula where we are. The tide is high and the wind looks to have caused a small storm surge to bring the water right up into the  parking lot and yard of the marina. While not the same as from the real storm of earlier this month, it is interesting to see and note how close to the water (and edge so to speak) many of these places along the coast are located.

So here is the special treat.

Traveling with Jim and Justine has been a special part of the journey. We have laughed and shared many stories of our respective histories. But one thing that I have learned that you better be careful in what you reveal in front of Jim or it may end up in a poem by a very observant and creative fellow. And I offer the following as proof.

The O’Blenis Ode

By Jim McKnight 10/18

(fourth stanza by quest author RDOIII (me) - Jim inspires one to new talents)

Out of the house
And off to school,
Ron met Faye,
But she was no fool.

She liked what she saw,
He could be her mate.
But after THEIR dinner,
HE went out on a date.

To get his attention,
She shrunk his best hat,
So he ran down the hall,
And said What's with that?

So Ron broke his rule
And found that dating a fresh-woman was cool
He made up for his dating mistake
When at his senior bash he traded his lobster for her leather steak

With beauty and charm
As only Faye can,
She used it all
To marry her man! ’

They had two children
Their bundles of joy
Named Ryan and Rob,
A boy and a boy.

They bought a boat,¸
Had 20 years of sailing,
But when the boys grew up,
Their relationship was failing

Faye had to tell Ron¸
That sailing was a chore
“I am so sorry, honey,
I can’t do it any more!"

But only a year later,
They gave it a try.
And found a comfy
Bayliner to buy!

But what will we name it
They didn’t think twice
The named it Perelandra
And for them, it was nice.

They took their new boat
Along Maine’s rocky coast.
Yes, living on that boat
Pleased them the most.

Over 40 years of marriage,
I’ll give you a scoop.
They pulled up their anchor¸
To do the Great Loop!

We stop the boat engines,
Anchor up, and then raft her.
Then hop on Perelandra
For great food and much laughter.

We have Jim and Justine
Rocky, Ron, & Lady Faye.
We watch football or talk
And everything’s okay.

Then we sleep in the dark
In the river on our boat
And pray to Mighty God
in the morning we still float!

To the gulf on the rivers
Takes a long time to get there,
But travel is much better
With our friends from New Hampshire!

See  - I said it was special - Thank you Jim

So as you can see it is night time, and thus the crews of Perelandra - and Knights Kingdom - wish you a .............

Good Night and May God Bless

  1. Rick and I are laughing as we read the OBlenis Ode as we know most of those tales (date after dinner, shrinking hat, Faye not liking lobster, etc!!).....So glad you 4 are traveling together and enjoying the fun. Hoping to catch you both at some point!

Jim is one clever fellow and we laughed at hearing it as well.
So glad you are able to head back to the boat - and look forward to seeing you soon.
