Day 170 Pensacola to Fort Walton Beach Monday November 5, 2018

Clouds were in control again today but only passing showers - high in upper 70s

Well today is launch day. We were scheduled to go in at 9:30 but the boat to be hauled out at 8:00 didn't show up until 9:00. So we were in around 10:15. It was just as well as there was fog in the morning and it lightened up a lot by the time we left the harbor.

If you remember yesterday's post, I showed the yard area for making beams and pilings. Here is the loading area that they lift the pieces onto a barge for transport to the bridge under repair.

This is the bridge we walked over to get to the Oar House and where we took the overhead photos from.

The fog has lifted a lot. The new prop was so much an improvement over the broken one - made it feel like a new boat.  The pitch (bite) of the new propeller was too much and the result was that I can't make full rpm on that engine. Will need to have the props adjusted when we get to Sarasota.

There are still tows and barges to be contended with on the Gulf Intercoastal waterway. Note that the sun in breaking through - if only for a time.

And we reach the 4000 mile mark today in our journey - seems amazing to me even still.

There are some marvelous beach dunes in the area - but it is all Air Force property. The dunes are the barrier we are enjoying to let us travel on the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway and not be in open water.

Approaching Fort Walton. The boat Gypsy with Jim and Sue passed us and we we talked with them and are pleased that will be seeing them at the Fort Walton stop for the night.

Turning into the free City docks - a rare and wonderful treat along the Gulf Coast.

 All settled in

As you can see the clouds continue to roll in to battle the sun for the upper hand - and the clouds won.

And here is a clue that we are very near the Elgin Air Force base - we passed it a few miles before Fort Walton Beach.

 There was another boat - Exhale - that Sue and Jim knew that came in as well. We all went to dinner and had very nice meal at the Board Room grill. The board room is not corporate in nature but a reference to the next doorand connected surf - board shop
