We are out and about to enjoy a few days of nice weather. As I had noted before there is an abundance of great places within a short hop from the marina. Today's jaunt is indeed a short one but definitely a great one. We returned to a favorite - Indiantown Island. From the map of the trip accessed from the above link, you can see that we are only half way to Boothbay Harbor from the marina. We pass by this island on our way to Boothbay Harbor. 

The island is maintained by the Boothbay Land Trust. Here we are landing at the dock that makes access very easy. The dock is on the northerly end of the island that stretches just about north to south.

The trail follows the shoreline much of the time.

Here we are looking across the narrow water gap to the mainland. This old home and boathouse are really iconic Maine scenery.

There are stone walls indicating that at least livestock lived on the island, but I would suspect that there were year round residents at one time.

This is an old pine tree. Fortunately this tree has not fallen from blow down that we have seen in a number of places.

This view is an outcropping on the east side of the island. The island is to the right and the mainland is to the left.

The house in the distance is the one seen above with the boathouse. It has a wonderful view down the cove.

And for my "I Spy" fans, what is today's special discovery in the center of the frame. Hint look on the branch.

Why it is a red squirrel, who was kind enough to pose just long enough for a photo.

These spruce cones looked quite interesting and really smelled wonderful too!

The hike takes us to a wonderful overlook on the south end of the island.

We walked back on the west side of the island to complete our loop.

The trail gets really close to the water in a number of places as can be seen below.

A fine spot to watch the sunset.

We are back in the dinghy and decided to ride around the island. Here we are headed south along the west side of the island.

"There is the overlook at the end of the trail!!" the all knowing Admiral Faye said and pointed out,

 After dinner on the boat, the sunset proved to be wonderful.

The evening sun is always enchanting.

And to add to the wonderful sunset, the moon appeared on cue.
