We had planned to have Jeff and Lori come with us to Boothbay Harbor. But the day dawned foggy and the forecast for the next several days had increasing winds and they needed to consider the best plan to get back to Bucks Harbor which is near Castine. So we said our good byes and we moved on to Boothbay by ourselves. We were disappointed that our time together was shorter than we mutually had hoped, but the first rule of boating is that weather trumps all scheduled plans.

Here is the view of our anchorage - yes a foggy day - but not much wind - I'll take it for traveling. You can also see - somewhat I know - the buildings of the Audubon Society on Hog Island.

The trip to Boothbay was uneventful I am pleased to say. The day actually turned sunny - but as you can see the fog was playing with us all afternoon and here it looked for sure that it would engulf us once again - but it did not.

There was a very fast moving thunderstorm that passed through late afternoon and then just as quickly turned back to blue skies. The evening sun was quite impressive.

On Tuesday we stayed in Boothbay to enjoy likely the last day here of the season - a very melancholy day indeed. We were glad it was a nice day. Here is a view from the second floor of Sherman's book store - a real book store that is still surviving.

The library

Still some traffic in town.

This is the corner shop seen in the above photo. I have been amazed that a popcorn store has been here for quite a few years now. I will admit that they make a huge number of different flavors and it is made right there - as evidenced by some very unusual smells emanating from the store.

Here is a different view of the footbridge

And photos of other sweet tooth places - fudge and taffy .................

................. and Ice Cream

And the main pier ...............

..........still has some folks here post Labor Day.

They are looking to go for a boat ride. I did have to smile that the average age of these would be riders is in the upper range of demographic age groups. I probably don't need to point out that the fellow taking the picture could blend right in with them.

And the boat on the right is the Bennie Alice - it also has a full boat going to the Cabbage Island Lobster bake - so there are a good number of out-of-towners still around.

We never get tired of enjoying the Downeast Yacht Club moorings that are right off the town dock!!!

But all good things must come to an end - and this time it is the end of our mini cruise. It was a beautiful day to ride back to the marina.

And we have once again returned to where we started - sigh!!

We enjoyed the afternoon and dinner on the boat. The night looks to be cool so it is good to be plugged into power so the electric heaters will take the chill off the fall feeling air.

So time to say .....................

Good Night and May God Bless - and stay warm
