Well it is getting very near the end of the boating season. We looked forward to a few more days on the water. The weather looked like it would cooperate for a few days over the Labor Day weekend. We also wanted to visit a few days with friends Jeff and Lori - future Loopers we met last summer.

It actually took us several days to get started. We had hoped to leave sometime prior to the weekend but remnants of Hurricane Ida - that left great carnage in its path - delayed our start. But Saturday dawned with full sunlight, reasonably warm temperatures, and fair wind so we were underway.

As you can see the day is just what the Doctor ordered. This is a small island off the Isle of Springs on the way to the Southport swing bridge.

And passing Indiantown Island - the sun was dancing brilliantly on the water - reminded me of our dancer granddaughter Lauren.

Here we have rounded Pemaquid Point and crossing Muscongus Bay. The Camden Hills can be seen in the background of this shot. Seeing them always gives me a huge thrill. I know that the photo is only a good approximation of seeing it for real, but I hope you can get some sense of the magnificence of the scene.

We left about 0900 and it is approaching 1200 and we are at the entrance to Port Clyde. You may recall we have passed by here this year but had not stopped at Port Clyde.

Marshall Point Lighthouse is still on guard.

We picked up a Port Clyde General Store mooring. Jeff and Lori on Water Witch are here too. They have come down from their home port of Bucks Harbor = near Castine.  You would think I would have been smart enough to get a picture of their boat - alas no.

And after lunch aboard, we four headed for a walk to the lighthouse. Here we are looking at the harbor. Our boats are on the far shore.

This is along the road to the lighthouse just a short distance from it. If you look real close you can see the island with my favorite lone tree on it - hope to see you again next year my friend.

We were greatly pleased that the lighthouse was open today. Inside is a real treat. One of the claims to fame of the Marshall Point lighthouse is it was in the movie Forrest Gump - it is the end of his cross country run.

These depicted the lobster buoy colors of local lobsterman.

This is the lighting rod/vent cap from the top of the lighthouse.

You can see the crack caused by a lightning strike.

And as an added treat, the lighthouse itself was open so we could go inside. Never had that happen before.

The Admiral Faye and Captain Ron

Friends Jeff and Lori.

And the light - it is even on.

It was a narrow stair case.

 And back on the boat.

We met on Jeff and Lori's boat for appetizers and talked long about their plans for the Great Loop beginning next spring. We are hopeful they will have as wonderful a time as we did.

So it now time to say .......................

Good Night and May God Bless
