2022 Cruise Day 9, Northeast Harbor Monday July 18, 2022

Today was forecast to be iffy weather. For those that are not sure of the definition of iffy, it's a highly technical term to identify potentially unsettled conditions. So not wanting to hike in iffy conditions, we did what every other tourist did - head to town.

And as we did yesterday for out trip back from Jordan Pond, we took the wonderful Explorer Bus.  On our way to the bus I took several photos of the harbor. You can see the signs of iffy weather.

And right on time our chariot arrives to take us to the big city, well nice town really.

We always enjoy eating on the Terrace of the Bar Harbor Inn. The iffy weather has improved to allow comfortable dining outside.

It is right on the shore at the base of the main street.

The main building was originally built as a club house for the rich cottage owners of the area. It was know as the Reading Room. The main room inside the large windows is now the dining room of the Inn.

Here looking to the town dock that has a plethora of cruise boats including ones for whale watching.

 Looking the other direction shows some of the "porcupine" islands that are staged around to form the harbor.

And much to our surprise we are led to the best table on the terrace. 

Here you can see from the main building, the terrace and the added wing of rooms of the hotel.

After an enjoyable lunch we walked the shore path. If you look closely you can see the fog lurking just beyond the islands - definitely part of the iffy weather - but that is part of the scene of summer in Maine - always a changing seascape.

And the perched rock has survived another year.

And the path takes us back into town. And the blue sky has caused the temperatures to rise quickly. But to a most pleasant degree - unlike the 109 degrees of record heat in England. I like it here thank you. In fact think I'll get an ice cream  - good idea.

So a fine relaxing day in Bar Harbor - complete with finding my 2022 calendars that I have in my computer room at home.  The coastal pictures - particularly in winter - are a great help in bridging the months the boat is not in the water.

Back in Northeast Harbor the fog has come in strong with the increasing southerly winds forecast to stay around all night. Great to be hooked to a secure mooring . So ..................
