Day 10 Northeast Harbor to Somesville

Sunday morning saw us getting underway around 7:00 to travel from Northeast Harbor to Somesville. The plan was to anchor in the harbor at the head of Somes sound, catch the shuttle bus to Mount St Sauveur, and view from above the path that we rode in the way up the sound.

The map shows that the distance is only about 7 miles, but it is a beautiful ride.

For reference the Mount Sauveur is located on the left side of the map route and where the cove is shown opposite the five route circle mark.

And I want to highlight that the Admiral is always willing and able to contribute to the work of manning the good ship PERELANDRA. And always calling the crew to quarters early in the day.

And beginning to turn north up Somes Sound - the only fiord on the east coast!

We have walked into the village of Somesville to await the bus.

The oft photographed former Selectman's building - now historical society building.

And we are on the trail late morning - and beautiful day it is indeed!!

And on the way down there are a few views to the west

Back at the harbor is the memorial to Abraham Somes, the namesake for Somesville that was the first village found on Mt Desert.

Now you can easily see PERELANDRA

We again enjoyed the marvelous warm afternoon, but the clouds were already sneaking in to change our days ahead.

So with the darkness full around us it is time to say .....
