It was another beautiful day. We have been looking forward to several significant hikes and today was the first of hopefully several to come. Today's hike is to Jordan Pond from Northeast Harbor.
Well you need to fill up prior some real exercise!! And I did my best!
We began our hike by taking a nice and longer start by walking around the harbor instead of taking the dinghy to the east side of the harbor. This allowed us to walk the short but nice Asticou Path. Here the Admiral is leading the way.
We have started up the east side and made the first lookout.
Next we got to the simply wonderful Thuya Garden. It is marvelous but it really highlights what a "brown thumb" I have. But there is always hope.
We decided to test our mettle by going via the Eliot Mountain trail.
As you can see the mountain is named after one of the original people to visit the area with the purpose of enjoying its natural beauty. His efforts of making provisions for permanent public access is rather amazing and forward thinking.
Strangely there is no marker that show you have reached the summit of Eliot mountain. Interestingly it was not at the place of the plaque shown above. I could tell when we reached the top but it was in the middle of the woods and really nondescript. But you can see we are still heading in the right direction!
But the trails in the woods are glorious. We are revitalized every time we have the chance to experience them. The spruce woods are so different than forests that are away from the coast.
Ah, the intersection with the trail that will take us to Jordan Pond!!
While my little tree on Warren island was gone, the knee tree has survived another year.
One good knee deserves another.
And we have arrived. This is the bridge that crosses the Jordan Pond outlet stream.
We have placed our names for lunch on the lawn. But some trail mix will help us pass the forty minutes - and the view is equally helpful in assisting with just relaxing.

It was mid afternoon when we finished lunch and caught the Explorer Bus back to Northeast Harbor.
We spent the remainder of the afternoon and early evening simply sitting in the cockpit being embraced by the warm sun and mild breeze. It is one of the moments that we will recall in the winter.
As the sun has moved on to the west it is time to retire.
Good Night and May God Bless
