The weather was not the best for moving so we decided to stay one more day a Holbrook. As you can see from the map below the quaint town of Castine is just a couple of miles to away from our anchorage. The day was cloudy and rainy to start and we got a break in the afternoon to dinghy over to town.
Castine is the home of Maine Maritime Academy. This is their training ship
Clever name "State of Maine"
We wandered over to Eaton's boatyard
The docks looked new - wonder what happened. Well this past winter's storms damaged the dock. Article on Eaton's Boatyard damage
Kenny Eaton is on the right
Castine is an old settlement. There is much history here
There are a number of interesting signs that provide a glimpse into its very interesting history.
Check the date on over the door
Check out the sign below that is on this old home
A very nice inn on Main Street
This is on our dinghy ride back to the boat - just before the clouds rolled back in as you can see in the photo below that was shot only 40 minutes later.
Windjammer Stephen Taber.
Day 6 Holbrook to Buckle Harbor
Our plan was to get to Northeast Harbor over the next several days so we could do some hiking in Acadia National Park.
The weather looked OK to move 25 miles to Buckle Harbor. That would like us an easy run into Northeast Harbor.
The day was cloudy with a few showers, but no fog.
We have noted that there seems to be a lack of boats out and about. There were only two other boats here when there are normally a dozen or more.
Well the light is fading into the mist so I will say .....................
Good Night and May God Bless
