Day 15 July Cruise Boothbay Harbor to Robinhood Marina Friday July 30, 2020

The clouds of yesterday headed east to reveal bright sun morning. The day was mild with only a slight breeze. Nice last day

The sun coaxed me out of bed. It was nice to see the sun on the last day of our cruise. Yes we planned to end on a nice day because we looked ahead and scheduled it - another joy of being retired instead of having to plan to the Sunday of the end of a vacation week.

Today's photos will start with one from yesterday that shows the hide tide.

And here is the scene with today's low tide. Even in an "urban" setting the tide makes a great difference in the scene. I never tire of watching shifting view that tide provides.

And we went on our walk out to Spruce Point. You have seen many a photo from this walk in earlier posts this year. This photos is to further demonstrate the lack of people at the motels in Boothbay, and I would suspect those in all of Maine. This lot would normally be nearly full this time of day and time of year.

On returning to town I was brought short when I finally noticed this door still here. It had been at the end of an old building that sat on the site for more years that I know of. Its principle function was it contained of all things. a bowling alley.  After the owner died a number of years ago it was purchased to make way for condos - but it hasn't happened - and the old door lingers for another year - will it be there next year?

And I know you seen this photo before of Indian Point, but I love seeing it very time I pass

And we noticed that Hannaford's Supermarket had lobster on sale - the cheapest in years. Well can you think of better end of cruise dinner? Me neither. We got enough for lobster rolls for lunch tomorrow. Here the Admiral is dressed in her finest lobster eating tee shirt - no napkin required. Let's eat!!

And here is a fitting shot. This is taken from slip E13. It is the slip that we first had when we arrived at Robinhood with our new to us Bayliner 38 in 1999.  It's been a wonderful 22 seasons here at RMC.

So as you can see the sun is about to go done on another wonderful day on the water so it must be time to say ..............................

Good Night and May God Bless

Day 14 July Cruise Warren to Port Clyde Wednesday July 29, 2020

The night was warm and the air was calm and left the windows open. The sun was out in the morning and managed to stay out all day - even with a cloud line that lay just to the east. Temperatures in mid eighties - a wonderful day to be on the water - it was roasting back home in NH.

The day was perfect. Warm, sunny, and light breeze to bring the cooling sea air.

We left Warren Island at 10:00 and motored easily the 30 some miles back toward home. We passed by Camden and Rockland.

Just off Rockland we saw this amazing motoryacht the Rising Sun.
It is 426 feet and it is doing 16 kts. (can tell from looking at its AIS information).  Based on its maximum HP of 48,000, the fuel burn at cruising speed is - wait for it -  over 2000 gals per hour. That is insane and seemingly over the top in a lot of ways. But I will admit that most every sailor that we pass (note that we sailed for 25 years) says similar things about us.
.

Owls Head light and beginning of the Muscle Ridge Channel.

Whitehead light at the south end.

We are now on the approach to Port Clyde. The lone tree that guards this small island has been there since the first time I saw it in over 45 years. Live on lone tree!!

The is Marshall Point Lighthouse. This is the one at which Forest Gump finished his run cross the country in the movie.

Port Clyde

And across the straight from our mooring is Hupper Island and this home of Chief Justice John Roberts. And yes we have seen him and his wife.

We went for a walk. This sign is rather ironic with the shark logo and kayaks after the killing 2 days ago by a shark of a women swimming at Bailey's Island.

The harbor

On walk back into town passed the pile of lobster pots.

And I can't get this thing

A post office in a coastal town.

And there was time to get some aerial photos.

The town of Port Clyde

And night is falling so time to say...................

Good Night and May God Bless.

Day 13 July Cruise Holbrook Island to Warren Tuesday July 28, 2020

The night was warm and the air was calm but thunderstorms moved along northerly of us. The sun was out in the morning and then the afternoon again came with a few little showers. Temperatures in mid eighties - a nice day.

The day started with the sun dominating the beautiful summer sky. It was a warm night and even early in the morning the summer haze from a hot day was in the air. It was a great day to get some aerial shots with a blue sky that would contrast with the ones taken on a cloudy day.

Immediately upon take off I flew over the rock where the seals hang out just to the north of us.  It was so interesting to see them from above.

Today we traveled up around the north end of Isleboro Island and down to Warren Island.  Instead of walking around on the island again we did something that we have never done. We visited Grindel Point on Isleboro. This is directly across from Warren Island harbor.

This point serves a number of functions. There is the Grindel Point lighthouse,

the ferry terminal for access to and from the island,

docking area for the harbor behind the point,  (Warren Island is directly across from the dock)

and the reason for our stop, Karen's snack shack.

Bob from Honey Dew had said that you could get a good fish sandwich here and the french fries were also good. He was correct on both points.

It was interesting to hear that the Covid Virus effects are real here on the Island as well. Karen said her business is down $800 to 900 a day from last year. That is tough in a short season. That is a lot of lost revenue for a small business owner.  Sure hope the promise of vaccines being tested comes to be.

We split two games of Sky-Jo after lunch. It got real warm at times in the afternoon when the breeze stopped.  Some wonderful grilled hot dogs with grilled buns were a very satisfactory dinner.

And now the sky is filled with countless dots of light - so it must be time to say ...........................

Good Night and May God Bless
