Day 11 July Cruise Holbrook Island 2nd day Sunday July 26, 2020

Day 11 July Cruise Holbrook Island 2nd day Sunday July 26, 2020

The night was mild and the air was calm. The sun was fighting with the clouds all day. Nice afternoon breeze but it came with a few little showers. Temperatures in mid seventies - a nice day all in all

The sun looked to be returning again nicely as it rose in the east. But clouds muscled in shortly after.  The day even had rain bands tracking to the east of us most of the afternoon. We even got a few showers. The day was still warm and at times muggy but it still afforded us a nice walk on Holbrook Island that I always find most pleasant.

Holbrook Island Sanctuary came from a donation from Anita Harris back in 1971 - what a wonderful gift to all to enjoy. It is amazing the wonderful tracts of land that folks across the country donated for the public to share what they found so inspiring.

I began the day with flying the drone. I always think that a cloudy day will result in less interesting aerial photos. But I am nearly every time surprised how that is not the case - today was no exception.

This is looking across at Holbrook Island.

And now up to 400 feet

Looking west with mainland on left and Holbrook Island on right.

Looking northerly with Castine in the distance

Back over Holbrook Island

This beach is where we took the photo of us on the beach that is below.

Looking east further sinto the bay

And this is the harbor. The nearest boat on left is Perelandra and to the far left is Honey Dew with friends Bob and Paula.

At 10:00 we headed to walk Holbrook Island

Bob and Paula and Scupper

The island has a barn that has been maintained. Really nice to see it not left to fall like so many structures of this age.

There are nice trails on the island through woods and open fields.

This is the beach I mentioned above in the aerial photos.

Ron and Faye on left and Bob and Paula and Scupper on the right. Scupper is the one with four legs in case you were wondering.

Bob laughed at Paula and I taking photos of gnarly dead trees, but I thing they are rather interesting.

And the view to the east from back on the boat.

We enjoyed an afternoon of reading and lounging and then gathering with Bob and Paula for coffee. I really enjoy being able to sit for several days in a row - a pleasure that we didn't do until I retired - those limits of vacation got in the way.

The time has slipped away and so has the sun thus it is time to say ...............

Good Night and May God Bless
