Day 21 Robiinhood Marina - Home Again

For mobile users, use this link to subscribe to follow by email and access the blog index

Our last day of our very wonderful cruise. A short ride to Robinhood Marina - as you can see from the map it is only about 4 miles. But a pleasant 4 miles.

And the day started off like many on this trip - foggy.

But the sun as you can see in the first photos was there to burn off the night time wet blanket.

The run back to Robinhood was in clear skies and in air that again had the feel and spell of the height of summer. It is always good to end on a nice day. It makes you wish that it didn't have to end. Which is actually a good thing. As we always told our boys when a good time had to end - "It is good to end and be wanting more - that way you will look forward to the next time!!"

Here is the view from our slip following our afternoon of cleaning the boat.

And I will end this trip with a photo that fellow Robinhooders Doug and Evangeline on Brigadoon took of us at the anchorage last night. And if you look close you can see me taking a photo of the same sunset.

So as the sun sets on this wonderful trip, time to say until our next venture - hopefully in a couple of weeks ..........................

Good Night and May God Bless

Day 20 Indiantown Island

For mobile users, use this link to subscribe to follow by email and access the blog index

Well as I predicted summer has arrived as we are finishing our cruising time. Today was a spectacular example of summer - blue cloudless skies, temperatures in the upper 80s, cooling breeze and dry air prevent even a hint of fog. Both Faye and I remarked that this was supposed to occur in early July. But I should really switch from a tone of complaining to one of thanks for such a glorious end of our time away from the dock - so I will.

As you can see we are leaving Boothbay in glorious conditions.

We are early for the opening of the Southport swing bridge so we putted out around Burnt Island.

Here is the view of the island from the west side.

And soon it was time to once again travel through the Southport Bridge. And today for some reason reminded me of the twin Lewis brothers, Dwight and Dwayne who tended the bridge for years before retiring. They always gave us a little warm Maine chat when we called on the radio for an opening and then from the bridge as we passed through. A reminder that things do change.

And Indian Point a low tide is always a interesting sight - today was no different.

After lunch it was time for a walk on the Island. The Admiral is ready to lead on.

Yes I take of photo of this boathouse every time I pass by it - can't break the pattern now - even though I thought about it.

And the view from the south end of the island is always wonderful.

And then we motored around the island - so I was able to get another boathouse photo!!

And then before we knew it. it was night time so it must also be time to say ..................

Good Night and May God Bless

Day 19 Boothbay Harbor 3rd day

For mobile users, use this link to subscribe to follow by email and access the blog index

Finally a real summer day - heat advisory for back home!!!

One thing we found out doing the Great Loop is that it can be great fun staying put for several days. Our third day in Boothbay Harbor supports that conclusion.

We started our day with our beloved walk to Spruce Point. Even with a familiar routine, there is always something different to see when you are along the ocean. Today the tide showed its colors of low tide while looking at the inner cove seen from the footbridge.

And here you can see the fog that is still around - normally we would see the shores of Southport Island from this spot.

And from here too. The good thing is that the fog is staying outside of the harbor - and it is a real hot day. Back home the temperatures are approaching 100 degrees - here the pleasant sea breeze is keeping us wonderfully cool in the 82 degree temperatures.

Not sure why these colorful buoys and traps are not in the water - particularly with the high price of lobsters.

Again the contrast between warm sun and much, much cooler fog.

And back at the boat I had a real craving for some hot dogs. Look at those beauties. Faye even fried me  some onions and toasted the rolls. This is what Fenway Franks should look and taste like - but not even close. YUM!!!

And for this afternoon's entertainment we decided to take a dinghy ride to Burnt Island. On the way we passed this newly built float but we are not sure what its use is meant to be?

Why a Shag Hangout of course. I know that is not the real reason, but can't imagine what this will look like in a day or two.

And the wharf at Burnt Island

Attention Lauren and Bree, we found a new section of trail around the west side of the island - fun additional walk.

And we just walked out on to the island ledges and found a great spot to sit for a rather long time to just take in the swell of the ocean and glory in the day that had become a perfect summer event - it was all the more to be savored as we have had so few of them this year!!

And we found some "art in the park."

And the beautifully restored light house is still here. All the fog really made me think about how incredibly important these lights and sounds signals were to early sailing ships and even motored vessels before Loran and then GPS navigation.

Looking back at Boothbay Harbor

A fine day indeed. And we grilled a nice steak for dinner - a tasty end to the day.  And coffee has been enjoyed and the cool air of a fine summer evening is now wafting in through the windows - and making me sleepy. So time to say .....................
