Day 4 - Warren Island to Holbrook Harbor

Last night a rain front moved through that brought cool but nice clear air. This afternoon did feel more summer like.

Today was only a short ride of about 14 miles travel and about 10 miles as the crow (or seagull if you prefer) flies. We traveled north from Warren Island up the west side of Isleboro and round the top of the island and then across to Holbrook Harbor, which is near Castine.

Before leaving we did take a wonderful hike around Warren Island - always a favorite place. The views across the tidal flats and across the water to the Camden Hills of the mainland always are breathtaking to us. We dream about these views all winter and the clear air of today and the low tide gave us the scenes we had so longed for. I simply hope the photos give you a good perception of the beauty of this spot.

This is the view from the boat in the morning

A short dinghy ride took us to the park pier and welcome station.

We walked around the island in a counterclockwise direction. The morning breeze was cool and the Admiral has found a still place to soak up a little heat before resuming our trek.

We made it a point to look for the little tree we discovered last year that was growing out of a stump. We were glad to see it still doing well. Maybe it will spread roots down through its decaying host and live a long an prosperous life - we will keep you posted - as long as our prosperous life allows.

And speaking of roots. This fellow has learned to reach out where it can.

This is the southern end of the island looking across to Cradle Cove and Seven Hundred Acres Island.

The tides provide an even changing scene as you can see. One of the reasons we love the Maine coast so much.

And we have come back to the east side again. This is looking north. You can see Perelandra.

Following our enjoyable morning stroll, we headed north and went around the north end of Isleboro and then over to Holbrook Harbor. Another favorite spot. We were pleased to find an open quest mooring that the Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park puts out. This is looking behind us from our mooring.

I took a dinghy ride further into the bay and this is looking back to our mooring.

There are several interesting small islands in the bay. I landed at Ram Island an walked around.

This is looking toward Castine that is just the other side of that island in the distance.

And back at the boat the day passed wonderfully. There were just enough clouds at sunset to add some great interest to the scene. So it was time to get some aerial shots.

So the darkening skies, and my heavy eyelids, tell me it is time to say ................

Good Night and May God Bless
