We were both up early and got underway at 5:30. It was cool 20 degrees!!
Stopped for breakfast down the road just as the sun was coming up.
The sunny day made it feel warmer,
We stopped for lunch at a neat place in Chilhowie, VA at the Riverfront Cafe. I do have to say that apparently they moved the river three blocks to the east, but at least I didn't get my feet wet!!. We like to eat at local spots versus the chains if we have an option. Great burger and chicken salad sandwich with homemade chips and fries
We continued to Knoxville and took a look at the waterfront. It will be great fun to ride up the Tennessee River on our own boat.
Look at the snow still on the ground - so much for the sunny warm south!!.
The locals said they had 3 to 6 inches early in the week. As this is so unusual, and they have little snow equipment, it is a major event for them - and they are freezing - literally.
The Tennessee Vols football stadium is just up from the waterfront. Reportedly the VOL navy arrives for the home games and there are pleasure boats rafting up way out into the river - some party!!. You can even "tailgate" in the rail cars show below.!!
