The day was sunny and cool - 46 Degrees in Port St Joe about 9:00 when we left to head east.
we traveled the panhandle to the town of Carrabelle Fl.. This is a place that folks looking to cross the 180 mile trip to Clearwater by boat go when they are traveling the Great Loop. They stage here and wait for good weather. A nice small town.
We rounded the Big Bend of Florida (where the Florida peninsula starts) and headed south. We stopped in to see Steinhactee (photos below). It was a small town and was OK
but we didn't want to come here on the crossing - want to now go further south.
Its best feature was the Maddie's store below that reminded us of granddaughter of the same name and her sisters Lauren and Bree back home
We ended up at Tarpon Springs. This location is where the old sponge industry was located. The photo below is one of the old "Sponge Docks". A great many Greek names are on stores telling of it heritage. But we both agreed that there was no big attraction to stop here
A great day but long drive
