June 5, 2020 Friday Robinhood Maine. Partly Cloudy and 75 degrees

Time for a blog update, right Lauren? Yes it has been a while.

And today Lauren graduated Sixth Grade - whoa is that possible?
Great Job Lauren!!!!

The last post was from our time in Florida at the Villages - and things were normal.

Then the virus took hold. We even came home early by two weeks to avoid getting stuck in Florida either by getting sick or some unknown restriction on moving about.

So the "stay at home" orders of March and April found us like all others, staying home and watching way too much TV.  Strangely enough, spring did arrive - though the cold spring sure made it seem like the virus had even made the seasons sick - and the photo below highlights that nature largely ignored the virus restrictions.

And May then rolled around and at the end of the month Faye and I celebrated 45 years of marital bliss. We marked the occasion with a fancy dinner - those are lobsters in the pot - yum. We are planning on making it another 45 years.

From the lobsters our meal creativity reached new levels - Faye made Maine Italian sandwiches - she found the bread at Sams Club and we were amazed at how good they were.

We have ventured out some in search of exercise and reduction of cabin fever. We found a nice trail right in Litchfield that leads down to the Merrimack River. Moores Falls is the site of a lock on the river that was constructed in the late 1800s that allowed water navigation all the way to Concord - something that I didn't know.

It was very beautiful along the river

And because of the uncertainty of restrictions of going to Maine, we delayed the boat launch until the June 2nd.

Here we are heading for the water and launching

Feels great to be on the water.

We started the next day on Wednesday, but both engines were overheating.  I changed the pump impellers but that didn't help. After much head scratching and wild pondering and fretting, I arranged for a diver to come on Thursday to check the water intakes for the engines. I was thrilled when John popped up from below and said both intakes were plugged good.

That was just before noon so we headed north as the weather was very nice. We had a mild breeze from behind and temperatures in the mid 70s. We were even in short sleeves for most of the trip after the sun came out.

We made it just past Portland and stopped at Jewell Island. On the approach to Jewell we passed by Junk of Pork Island

See what I mean?

Jewell Island is one of the prettiest places in Maine - and anywhere else for that matter. It is thankfully a public island. The harbor. as seen below, is wonderful. There are no moorings allowed that makes it a terrific place to anchor. We got settled right around 5:30.

The ride of yesterday consumed about two thirds of our mileage. So today was an easy day. But there was some fronts around that delayed our start and made the ride a little lumpy.

Here we are approaching the tip of Small Point - the east end of Casco Bay.

We made it to Robinhood Marina
Boy does it feel good to have the boat in the slip. And the sun even came out nicely.

It will be a different summer with a lot of the places we go restricted or not open.
But the Maine Coast is still here and the coves we love are waiting for us - so it will be a great summer.

And just being on the boat and looking out our back porch is a great view and thus even at the dock is a perfect place.

So as you can see the sun is lowering surely in the west, it is time to say,

Good Night and May God Bless
