Indiantown Island - second day

This morning we got a message from friends Bob and Paula asking if we were out and about. They noted that they were thinking of heading to Indiantown Island - so we just relaxed here for a second day.

We didn't do anything as strenuous as a hike on the island. The day was perfect again. Late in the afternoon after a good time of catching up with the Honeydew crew, I took the dinghy for a short ride over to Spectacle Island, 

 

As you can see on the map (see above link) the two larger ends of the island give a look of a pair of spectacles when viewed from above.

In addition to the island being quite interesting by itself, there was a schooner there that invited a look see. 

As you can see it was the Lewis R French. As you see the French is a wonderful old vessel. It is one of a number of Windjammers (sailing vessels) that sail out of the Rockland/Camden area. The French is in the area for the Boothbay Windjammer Days that occur next week. As we will be in Michigan next week we will miss this fun event - but are looking forward to a great time there with friends Jim and Justine, and Rocky the Wonder Dog - folks we met and shared great times with while on the Great Loop!!

If you look close there is someone in the middle of the picture to give some perspective. The other thing to note is that we are near low tide. At high tide the person in the photo would need to be concerned about getting wet feet.

Look close and you can see a boat from the French beached on shore. I noticed a fire on shore and I bet they are making a "shore" dinner of lobsters, clams, potatoes and corn - yum. I didn't get invited.

I rode around the island to enjoy the wonderful view - particularly the added sights created by low tide.

This is looking across the Sheepscot River. Robinhood Marina is just beyond the visible far shoreline.

Bob and Paula came for dinner. While we didn't have lobsters but we feasted just as well. Faye made a nice tortellini salad, I grilled a steak, Paula brought freshly baked biscuits, a very nice hash, and a top of the heap strawberry- rubarb pie! 

A very nice day it was. And I am now near to succumbing to a food coma,  I will say .....................
