2022 Cruise Day 5 Boothbay Harbor to Warren Island Thursday July 14, 2022

Today was an interesting weather day. The best part was that the seas were calm all day. The morning was cloudy and temperatures were low 70s. There was blue sky to the west so I was certain that we would see sunny skies before long into our trip. As you can see from map below it was about a 50 mile trip.

Of course for a long ride you need a good start -yum.

The blue skies hung behind all the time for our 5 hour ride as you can see.

This is Old Man ledge outside of Burnt Island. Port Clyde is in behind the island.

And here is the is Owl's Head Light. Rockland is directly behind this point. The Camden hills are in the background. It is actually rather cool about this time. I needed some more of that coffee!!

There are a lot of schooners, or windjammers as they are called up here in the cruising trade, in this area as many of them are based in Rockland or Camden. They are a pretty sight.

Here we are approaching Warren Island.

It is a state park, unique as it can only be accessed by water being an island.

Remember that I mentioned that the weather was interesting today? Well just as we approached the island the sun managed to push the clouds away - at least enough time for our walk around the island. Warren Island is really beautiful and is one of our favorite places on the Maine Coast.

There are many camp sites that would be spectacular to pitch at tent on and spend some time.

This is looking west across to the Camden Hills

And in case readers of last year's postings are wondering, since we certainly were, the little tree growing out of the rotten stump is there and doing nicely.  Faye and I remarked that we plan to keep boating so we can see our little tree grow up (if in fact it actually does.)

The beach on the south end of the island is always interesting.

It is a low tide and today it is an extreme low tide of 1.5 feet lower that normal due to the full moon.

Almost made it around.

And what would a trip to Warren Island be without some drone pictures? And back to the weather of the day. Right after our walk the clouds of a thunderstorm front moved in almost instantly. The actual storms passed to the north of us and cleared to allow some nice evening shots.

Looking at Seven Hundred Acre island in foreground and Isleboro in the distance.

And here we are enjoying the end of a rather fine day on the Maine Coast.

So, Good Night and May God Bless.
