Day 19 Boothbay Harbor 3rd day

 Finally a real summer day - heat advisory for back home!!!

One thing we found out doing the Great Loop is that it can be great fun staying put for several days. Our third day in Boothbay Harbor supports that conclusion. 

We started our day with our beloved walk to Spruce Point. Even with a familiar routine, there is always something different to see when you are along the ocean. Today the tide showed its colors of low tide while looking at the inner cove seen from the footbridge.

And here you can see the fog that is still around - normally we would see the shores of Southport Island from this spot.

And from here too. The good thing is that the fog is staying outside of the harbor - and it is a real hot day. Back home the temperatures are approaching 100 degrees - here the pleasant sea breeze is keeping us wonderfully cool in the 82 degree temperatures.

Not sure why these colorful buoys and traps are not in the water - particularly with the high price of lobsters.

Again the contrast between warm sun and much, much cooler fog.

And back at the boat I had a real craving for some hot dogs. Look at those beauties. Faye even fried me  some onions and toasted the rolls. This is what Fenway Franks should look and taste like - but not even close. YUM!!!

And for this afternoon's entertainment we decided to take a dinghy ride to Burnt Island. On the way we passed this newly built float but we are not sure what its use is meant to be?

Why a Shag Hangout of course. I know that is not the real reason, but can't imagine what this will look like in a day or two.

Attention Lauren and Bree, we found a new section of trail around the west side of the island - fun additional walk.

And we just walked out on to the island ledges and found a great spot to sit for a rather long time to just take in the swell of the ocean and glory in the day that had become a perfect summer event - it was all the more to be savored as we have had so few of them this year!!

And we found some "art in the park."

And the beautifully restored light house is still here. All the fog really made me think about how incredibly important these lights and sounds signals were to early sailing ships and even motored vessels before Loran and then GPS navigation.

Looking back at Boothbay Harbor

A fine day indeed. And we grilled a nice steak for dinner - a tasty end to the day.  And coffee has been enjoyed and the cool air of a fine summer evening is now wafting in through the windows - and making me sleepy. So time to say .....................
