Day 14 - 16 Buckle Harbor, Burnt Coat Harbor, and Seal Bay

The weather continues to be cool and it feels like summer just has not arrived. The best description that I have come up with is this is a Blanket Summer -  we took the extra spring blanket off the bed for a few days at the end of June, but since then the extra blanket has joined us for the summer - proof this is not a normal summer on the coast.

In addition, the cell signal in the places we have been the last several days has been limited or non-existence so today is catch up for three days.

When we got up from our night on the hook in Bar Harbor the sun did make an appearance through the hazy clouds.

It was a smooth ride with some fog to start.

At the southern end of Mount Desert Island we were able to see some of the magnificent homes along the water.

And soon we were passing Bass Harbor Light - our last close encounter with Mount Desert Island

We continued on for about 10 miles to a wonderful spot - Buckle Harbor on the north end of Swans Island.

The island is not very big but it has a wonderful trail down the side. Here I have landed the dinghy on the north end of the island to start my trek.

And another door in the woods - remember the other one from this trip?

Low tide always adds such an enhancement to the scene

This view of Perelandra is from the south end of the island.  I really like this photo.

Just outside Buckle Harbor there is a bar that reveals itself as the tide goes down, I have come here once before a number of years ago.

It is so strange to stand on such a relatively large expanse of land that will disappear in a short few hours.

Well I was here - proof at least until the next high tide

And Buckle Harbor was a good place to get some aerial shots.

You can tell that the sunlight is muted from this photo. Faye and I laughed that this diminished sunlight that has been the norm on many days is like getting instant cataracts.

On Sunday we made contact with Glen and Andrea from Chickadee III - our friends and slip mates from Robinhood. We agreed to meet in Burnt Coat Harbor which is on the southern end of Swan's Island. For us it was an easy run from Buckle Harbor that is on the north end of Swan's Island. Here we are approaching the lighthouse at the entrance of Burnt Coat Harbor.

It is a wonderful harbor that is filled with working lobster boats.

We went ashore and walked to the lighthouse.

Here you can see - if you look close, Chickadee III coming into the harbor.

After a wonderful dinner aboard Chickadee III and a rather boisterous night with winds, not predicted I might add, of up to 25 knots, we headed to Vinalhaven and its Seal Bay.

In Seal Bay the sky turned blue at least for the afternoon. We took advantage and hiked the nearby Huber Preserve.

And around dinner time the clouds returned and night time thus came early,

So time to say ......

Good Night and May God Bless
