Mill Cove Trevett August 12, 2022 Friday

Today's post has some catch up and some of today's fun.

Since the end of our July trip we have been home to do chores and connect with our Wolfeboro contingent. Our time with Rob and Dawn and their girls began last Sunday when we met them for church and then went to their home in Wolfeboro, NH for lunch of Nana's home made meatballs and potato salad - a wonderful combination of tastes. We were there to pick up Madelaine, our oldest granddaughter who came to visit for several days.

We began with a stop at The Back Room restaurant in Manchester.

Maddy approved the best chicken tenders that we have ever found - it was her first tasting.

After several days of enjoying her company that included school shopping with Nana for her first year of college (how did that happen!!) and watching multiple episodes of The Brokenwood Mysteries it was time to return her to Wolfeboro.

But there had been a request from sister Lauren for some Cinnabon cinnamon rolls. You can see we complied.

Once in Wolfeboro, Gabrielle wanted to visit downtown for some chocolates from Van Otis. I wish I had taken a picture of the store, but it was so full of every kind of chocolate candies and fudge that I was stunned and forgot.

But the town as you can see is a rocking place in summer. It is directly on Lake Winnipesaukee that really is a marvelous attraction.

And Gabrielle and Nana sampling the chocolate treats while playing PayDay.

And Lauren arrived home after work (and how did that happen as well!!) to claim her portion of the Cinnabon delights.

Yesterday we traveled back to the boat. We were able to meet John and Polly Rand for dinner in Bath at Maxwell's. We met them the first year we had Perelandra at Robinhood. They lived in Cornish NH and two years ago moved to Bath.

Today was beautiful on the water. We mentioned that we planned to do things near to the marina. As you can see below we traveled all of 4 plus miles to Mill Cove. There are several moorings of Downeast Yacht Club members here we can use. We have not done this in years - don't know why as it is a lovely spot.

A beautiful old home that has a commanding view south along the Sheepscot river. It is located at the entrance to Mill Cove

Mill Cove is straight ahead

And one of the reasons that we wanted to come here is we planned to dinghy around the point to a public park from which we could walk to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. You may recall all the gardens that we enjoy on Mount Desert Island. Well this one surpasses all of them in size and splendor - and we haven't been here but once before too many years ago. So a great reason for some local exploring. Our dinghy trip takes us under the new swing bridge to Barters Island - it is a stone's throw (admittedly a very good one) from our mooring.

On the north side of the bridge is the Trevett General Store. We have never been in and will try it tomorrow. Reportedly it has great bakery and lunch offerings - the smell going by was wonderful.

Look closely and I trust it will catch your eye as it did mine. Note that it is high tide. Below are photos of when we come back at low tide that are very interesting.

We are beginning our walk to the gardens and this wonderfully colorful shack was on the shore line.

The walk along the main road was about half a mile to the entrance below - and then we had to walk a half mile more to get to the entrance - but then we ended up walking three miles in the gardens - we got our exercise today!!!!

This interesting stone is at the entrance

These are vertical garden walls - very creative

I think she added to the beauty of the scene - don't you?

Never have seen a pink/orange lily - really beautiful.

And I am pointing out that I would like my backyard rock garden project to look like this!

And here is the scene on our walk back - the sunken fishing boat has been revealed

And here are scenes from our mooring in Mill Cove

As we are looking west and the skies are getting dimmer, it means it is time to say.................

Good Night and May God Bless
