Day 4 Roanoke VA to Steirsville TN October 14, 2017

Day 4 Roanoke VA to Steirsville TN October 14, 2017

Departed Roanoke with the day again cloudy and overcast. Traveled again on I-81 for about 85 miles. The day had promised to be nice and the clouds were showing hints of blue. I diverted onto route 16 at Atkins and crossed easterly to find the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was an interesting ride. It clearly had been a route that been well travelled in years past but not now. Many old abandonned building gave evidence that the area's time had passed. Very interesting and beautiful ride.

We connected with Route 421 which is a fairly well used road. The is much effort to widened it underway. We then connected to Route 105. Stopped for lunch at Troys 105 dinner - good and local fun. We then was route onto a one lane dirt cow path of a mountain road to connection with the BRP. Was shocked at how many other cars were on it.

We drove the BRP a long while to Ashville then to I-40 to west side of Great Smoky Mountains. Rode up and over route 441 which was spectacular.

We ended up at the Berry Springs B&B. It was very nice. We didn't arrive until twilight so we missed the sunset from our room balcony. But next time we will arrive earlier.

A great day.
