Day 137 Pisgah Mountain to Chattanooga Wednesday October 3, 2018

The sky was clear to start and then heavy broken clouds  developed in the morning, then lessened in the afternoon.  Temperatures were mid 50s to low 80s. Note we went from mountains to low lands.

It was another fine day in the Pisgah Mountain range. The sky slowly pulled up the sun to present a beautiful morning. The night had been clear all into the valley and the distance lights of Asheville were interesting to see. But the cotton ball clouds came in early morning to cover the valleys that in turn highlighted the mountain tops. It was a magnificent site.

After another very nice breakfast we drove about ten miles for a hike. Along the way we stopped at several overlooks to take in the views. It is tough to describe the sense of majesty one feels looking at the mountains and the equally impressive valleys. The Blue Ridge Parkway makes it possible to experience the drive a top it all. I wish for everyone the chance to see it at sometime.

Our hike is the Graveyard Fields Trail. So named because following a fire that left only stumps, someone remarked that it looked like a graveyard.

Being in a ravine area there is a stream. Our first stop was to Lower Falls. It was wonderful to see, particularly with the sun shining directly on the falls.

The Graveyard Fields trail was in low height brush that was interesting to see - but we didn't get the vistas of yesterday's hike.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a total of 469 miles in length. The Inn was at mile 410 and our hike at mile 418. We drove the remaining distance on the BRP. The views were marvelous.

On a sobering note we learned that the body a women, Mitzie Sue Clements, 53 from Ohio, lost in the nearby Clingman Dome area for nearly a week had been found. The beauty of the area is actually in large part due to the ruggedness and remoteness of the terrain - sorry that one had to experience and become victim to this harsh reality. I was actually here when I found out the news - irony abounds.

We made it to the highest point along the BRP.

And while I could show you a pant load more (that's parent of an once infant speak for A LOT) I will leave you with one more.

The ride back to Chattanooga was nice as we took the back roads and stayed off the Interstate.

We got back and found that the boat Serenity had arrived at the dock - a fellow Looper we had first seen on the Trent-Severn Waterway.  Mark's wife, Judy, had gone home for a few days so he joined us for dinner. It was fun talking a whole host of boating things including tales of New England from which we both hail.

So that we don't have to do it tomorrow, we went out to do laundry and grocery shop. It was good to get those chores done while we have the rental car.

So it is as you can guess night time and so I will say ..................

Good Night and May God Bless
