Day 306 Fort Myers to Moore Haven Thursday March 21, 2019

Day 306 Fort Myers to Moore Haven Thursday March 21, 2019

The night time was again mild. The beautiful weather returned. Sun all day. Mild breezes.  Temperatures in the mid 70s

It was up early to fill the water tanks. You need to sanitize the tanks using chlorine every so often and today was the day - added the extra chlorine yesterday to sit until this morning then drained and refilled this morning.

While I was doing that, I noticed a wonderful moon-set - see?

We were off at 8:30 with Knights Kingdom. The downtown of Fort Myers is apparently further up than we saw yesterday - it is in the area of the buildings you can see here.

The Caloosahatchee River leads to Lake Okeechobee Lake - and so we are river riding again today.

The first thirty miles are more developed - at least along the water than we imagined it would be. There were some really big houses in places.

We even had a swing bridge to go through.

There is a free dock at LaBelle that is not very far up the river so we kept going.

After a while the river was in less developed areas and began to look more what we expected. But it looked more like farm country than swamp and while we saw many cows we saw nary an alligator - and we expected to have them nearly jumping in the boat.

And there were several locks. Franklin which was a three foot rise and Ortana, an eight foot rise.

The interesting thing was the locks operate in a very interesting manner - there are no flood valves, they just open the upstream gate a little and let the water flow in a small gap. See below.

After 58 miles we arrived at Moore Haven.

It is a very small town but they have a wonderful dock with power and water. A good spot to stop for the night.

And for my Blues Clues friends here is a real puzzler.

Clue 1 There is a very unusual happening on the flybridge of this boat.
Clue 2 The lady in the green shirt seems not to be sitting on a boat seat.
Clue 3 This lady's arm's are reaching out to bars.

So what is different on this boat?

Well Steve what is it? "Well, the unusual thing is a piece of equipment the lady is sitting on and working her arms and legs - on a bicycle machine." First time I have ever seen that!

And at dinner time we had a guest come bye - rather close it turns out ...........

.... right Justine?

And Rocky the Wonder Dog is again demonstrating that you never need wonder what he is thinking - waiting for the next treat but of course.

And March is my birthday month - a few days early but a celebration was in order as we may be preoccupied over the next several days.

Captain Ron, and Jim and Justine

And with Admiral Faye

As the candles looked so bright against the night sky it is time to say .....................................

Good Night and May God Bless
