Lauren on the Boat - Kind Of

Well what does that title mean. Well first granddaughter Lauren had her turn to come on the boat - but the weather in Maine returned to less than stellar conditions. As with Bree and then Ryan and family, the plan was to go to Boothbay Harbor and do a bunch of things. But as you can see from photos below the weather exchanged sunny days for fog. And while you might agree that it makes for some great photo ops, it is not much fun to travel in the fog and then get somewhere to only see a short distance into a ground level cloud. So as you will see we all agreed to take the lemon like weather and make lemonade - we'll drive to places by car.

The weather started nice when we picked Lauren up in Portsmouth Friday July 11.

We settled in for some relaxation and down time. What is funny is that we still have to schedule grand kid visits to the boat around work schedules - but now it's Theirs - NOT Mine. If that isn't full  circle, eh?

And Lauren had provided a list of snacks for the weekend - that Nana filled down to the last item. How long is this visit supposed to be - a month?

Well you can see - or really not see - why we decided to drive the car to Boothbay Harbor.

We drove out to Spruce Point that is on the west side of Boothbay. We walked along the shore to Spruce Point Inn.

The houses in the background were just built last year. They are summer rentals at $18,000 a week - I'll take the month of August please - if I win the lottery - unlikely unless I buy a ticket someday.

We then took our walk though the Spruce Point Inn forest - readers will recall this is our go to walk in Boothbay.

Not sure who is cuter - it is a close call.

And we also fulfilled our plan to stop at the Lobster Coop for some - wait for it -

--- Lobster!!!

And then the stroll of the shops of Boothbay

Our stroll was finished with a stop to get some solution for "Everything"

Sunday proved to be a repeat of Saturday. Lauren had wanted to stop at Burnt Island lighthouse like we did with Ryan and his clan. So what to do - hmmmmm. "Have you ever been to the most photographed lighthouse in the world?" "Ok let's go to Portland Headlight!"

After checking with the Chief of course.

You can see it right!!??!!

That cute pair again,

Lauren is making good use of her new camera!!

Yes the sun is up there above the ground level clouds.

And a stop at Red's diary bar in South Portland

The next day we were able to get in more shopping with a stop at Freeport before returning our amazing weekend companion to Portsmouth and her Dad and sister Bree.

We returned to the boat in hopes that we might get away from the dock a day or two before going home. The evening gave some hint of hope.

But then at dusk the wisps of disappointment started to creep in to engulf all around

And sure enough, the next day was again foggy.

But Wednesday turned beautiful - oh yea - we need to go home today. Go figure. The story of this summer.

But is was still a great time "on" the boat with our beautiful Lauren. And the lemonade was delicious!
