Day 13 August Cruise Pulpit Harbor to Maple Juice Cove Monday August 24, 2020
The morning was a continuation of the fog that rolled in last night. The fog looked like it would stay most of the day and we decided that we would stay the day at Pulpit Harbor again.
We got the dinghy ready and headed to the town dock that is at the head of Pulpit Harbor. This is looking out toward our boat and Pulpit Rock is around to the right of the point on the right shore.
Our goal was the island store for a few things to hold us over.
This is from the road bridge at the head of the harbor.
The area around the island store is a cross roads of sorts. There is a grange hall, the store and a runway for small planes. It actually is used quite often.
And the well stocked store - it is for sale if you might be thinking of taking up island life.
Back at the harbor we found a short but nice trail that gave us a pleasant diversion from walking the road.
As you can see the weather looks not so good.
But I checked the marine forecast and low and behold it is now calling for heavy fog tomorrow AM and strong NW winds Tuesday evening. I didn't like the sound of that with the possibility of getting stuck on the east side of Penobscot Bay and in a harbor that wasn't the best for westerly winds.
And as the sun unexpectedly cleared we decided to move to Muscongus Bay and into Maple Juice Cove. Here we are passing Whitehead Light. Nice. eh?
Well we were lucky because all the bad weather was just north of us as you can see in this photo looking more northerly - we could even hear and feel the thunder claps from those clouds,
And we passed Marshall Light again at the entrance to Port Clyde.
And Port Clyde - just passing this time.
And we are now in Maple Juice cove. I know it is difficult to see but on the shore is the famous Olson House. We have visited it in person and it is an amazing experience - like stepping back in time.
The clouds that were to the north of us all day have settled southerly and now dominate our sky too.
They have done a good job of bringing an early night, so ..............................
Good Night and May God Bless
