Day 12 August Cruise Holbrook Harbor to Pulpit Harbor Sunday August 23, 2020

Last night was cool and wonderful sleeping weather. The sun was up early but then fog engulfed all of Penobscot Bay. It cleared some around 10:30. Clouds came over until about 6:00 then fog once more slid over us to bring an early evening.

The day was a typical coastal day - a nice start - fog - some clearing - clouds come in - clear - and fog returns and night falls gently in the fog diffused light.

We traveled about 16 miles south from Holbrook Harbor to Pulpit Harbor on North Haven Island. We had planned to make it to Long Cove at Tenants Harbor. But the fog let up enough to allow us comfortable passage to Pulpit. But the lingering fog bank southerly of us convinced me that a stop at Pulpit was the prudent and more enjoyable move for today.

Pulpit Harbor is a wonderful natural harbor. Its entrance is guarded by a rock that rises from the sea and presents a pinnacle that any preacher worth his salt would be proud to stand upon and proclaim his message - hence the name.

I was able to get some interesting aerial shots just as the fog was beginning its space invaders dance.

Note how the fog is just visible to left in this photo.

Off to get a close up of Pulpit Rock

A seagull agrees to a fly by to add some more ambience to the scene.

Compare the fog density to the first photo - both are taken just above our boat. Fog may seem to move slow - but it is far quicker than you would expect.

And now as the fog and fading light has reduced our visible world to a small circle of water around the boat, I will say .......................

Good Night and May God Bless
