Day 349 Manasqaun Inlet, NJ to Great Kills, NY Thursday May 2, 2019

Day 349 Manasqaun Inlet, NJ to Great Kills, NY Thursday May 2, 2019

The night was much cooler but winds were calm.  The sun was a no show in the morning with fog but arrived late morning.   Temperatures started low 50s and warmed to ....... the mid 70s - it was cold then warmed nicely until the sea-breeze brought back mid 50 degree temperatures

From Manasquan to NYC/Statent Island you have to go into the open ocean. My effort to travel on the NJICW the day before was worth the effort as we have a nice easy ride of about 40 miles to our destination of Great Kills Yacht Club on Staten Island.

I was a little disappointed upon waking up at 5:30 to find a good amount of fog around. It was not pea-soup Maine fog, but plenty thick that I didn't relish playing with ships around NYC with it still around. Fortunately. the sun won out from about 1000 to 1600 when the very cold air brought the sea-breeze and cool temperatures back to the low 50s.

Here we are leaving the Manasqaun Inlet. The fog is trying to welcome us to Maine - but we say, "Thank you, but we will see plenty when we get to Maine."  So the fog cleared about an hour in to our journey.

There were hundreds of Gannets - beautiful white sea birds

Once into the Sandy Hook channel we have three large ships to contend with - but we made it.

See the ship in the photos below.?

This is him three minutes latter.

And here we are turning in to Great Kills Harbor.

And the last dock in is Great Kill Yacht Club. Club member John & Juliet Calascibetta are the harbor hosts for this stop. John met us at the YC dock and helped us in. He recommended Coles Dock for lunch or dinner.

The restaurant was just up the street.

And it was wonderful. Faye had Chicken Parmigiana and I had mussels and linguine.    Both where dinner size portions and wonderful.

And after lunch we walked to Frank and Sal for some Italian grocery store browsing.

 And back at the boat.

Notice anything odd?  Yes, the canvas is partially down to repair some seams that have let go.

And here is Lady Faye working on those seams that let go.

So we are safely in our berth and I am ready for sleeping .

So time to say ................

Good Night and May God Bless
