The time has moved fast since the last post in late May. The weather has been typical Maine cool through June and then summer arrives seemingly overnight.

We have not been on the boat much with continued visits with grandkids and projects at home and helping son Ryan with building a deck at their trailer campsite.

Happy that we got this far on day two.

And a visit from Madelaine for some shopping with Nana - while I was pounding nails.

Mid May we had a few more days on the boat and headed back to Boothbay Harbor.

The trip over is only six miles but it is beautiful and never gets old. The swing bridge to Southport Island is always interesting.

Here are the islands outside of Boothbay Harbor

The famous Catholic Church that is lit up at night.  The lights were paid for by JFK after a visit.

We always enjoy a long walk to the east side of the harbor that begins with a crossing of the 1901 Footbridge across the head of the harbor and includes going by the Catholic church seen above.

This is looking north from the footbridge to head of the harbor.

We walk out on the peninsula to Spruce Point. The Spruce Point Inn is located in the area and features a nice wooded area that we stroll through as part of the 4.5 mile walk.

These are the grounds of the Spruce Point Inn.

And the road to the SPI follows the shoreline and has some wonderful views looking across to Southport Island with Burnt Island in the foreground.

And some old motorcycles at the lobster dock.

And the Catholic Church up close.

And the Fisherman's Memorial across the street

And back across the footbridge

And back at the main wharf in the center of town.

And our mooring

And on our way back to the marina we went out around the outside end of Southport Island. The Cuckolds Lighthouse stands guard at the open ocean end. The lighthouse has been rebuilt with private funds and is now a B&B.

This is Five Islands on the mainland near our marina.

MacMahon Island passage

And then more grandkids time.

With a highlight being attending Lauren's dance recital on Saturday June 22. Lauren is at very center.

Lauren and Charlotte.  Lauren looked beautiful and danced even more beautifully. I was impressed - and I don't think it was just because I was the proud Papa - she really did well and had a wonderful flow to her moments.

And with all the girls

And then on June 24 we made a trip to intercept our Looper Buddies Jim and Justine. They were just starting up the Hudson River and we drove over to Croton-on-Hudson to spend several days with them. When we came through on our Loop we did not tour West Point or the CIA (Culinary Institute of American ). So we all went to both places together. It was great fun to see them again.

The visitor center and museum is actually a former Catholic girls school. The museum was very interesting. We started the tour of the campus from here and then came back to see the museum.

West point is wonderfully old with many old structures including campus dorms below and

the Cathedral below.

West Point is located on the site of the former fort that was build to defend the Hudson River. George Washington said that who ever controlled the Hudson River would control the Revolutionary War. And based on this view of the narrow part of the river you can see why this point was so strategic.

A poignant civil war monument. It was most important here since many classmates of West Point ended up on opposite sides in the Civil War.

The war museum was interesting  - wish we had more time to really take it all in. It included captured uniforms of the Japanese.

Einshower's uniform was a special piece of history.

Another view of the constriction of the river

And our Admirals enjoying a brief moment of relaxation from the rigors and responsibility of command.

And the Gamercy Restaurant was a wonderful place for dinner

And the Hudson from the Halfmoon Marina at Croton-on-Hudson

And the next day we went to the Culinary Institute of America. It is like residency for doctors as the students work in the on site restaurants. We had a fine lunch at the Italian eatery.

An interesting sculpture made far more interesting upon closer inspection.

As it is made all from cooking and eating utensils!!

The main building was an monastery. Here the former chapel has become a working class room

And some of the many kitchens.

After leaving Jim and Justine to continue north on the Hudson, we headed home but first stopped at the impressive Croton Dam.

And Granddaughter Sydney from Florida has come for a summer visit.

Sydney's NASA shirt says "I need more space." How true is that?

And suddenly it is Treason Day and time for the "Ungrateful Colonists" to celebrate with a parade in Wolfeboro, NH. Son Ryan is relaxing from his deck work.

And finally what we have been waiting for - Lauren on her unicycle!  How cool.

And then back to the boat for a few more days with Sydney. A few interesting shots from our marina.

And back in Boothbay again. We never grow tired of being here - we did miss it terribly during our Loop trip last year.

And a fitting end to a fine day is with an ice cream in Boothbay with Sydney.

Will have some more posts next week as we start our annual Downeast Yacht Club cruise.

So till later this week .......

Good Night and May God Bless
