Day 5 DEYC 2019 Cruise Holbrook Harbor to Northeast Harbor Wednesday July 17, 2019
The night was mild, but unlike the previous mornings, the clouds were in control. The wind came up from the SW at 10kts Easy travel day. Temperatures in the mid 70s
Today we traveled about 35 miles. We had planned to stop at the Wooden Boat School with the group but we wanted to get some extra time in Northeast Harbor so we made the trip of about 35 miles today. We left about 8:15 and stopped for fuel in Southwest harbor - as you can see on the trip map - and then finished the several miles to Northeast.
For today's photos I will start with several from last night. The full moon had a few moments that it shone brightly between passes of clouds. I like the first one as it captures the light from the cabin.
As you can see from this morning shot of the anchorage, the clouds have been able to assert their presence and dominate the sky. This lasted all day with a few showers and a few moments that the sun cut through before quickly being snuffed out again.
Leaving the harbor we are looking west to the Camden Hills in the distance.
There are a few ships in Penobscot Bay that go to Searsport. One is seen in the middle of the picture heading to sea.
This is looking down Eggemoggin Reach. A wonderful river like waterway with the mainland to the left and Deer Isle to the right. The bridge connects the two.
And here are the islands at the end of Eggemoggin Reach. We will now cross Jericho Bay - with its crazy large number of lobster buoys lurking to snag your props.
Across the bay we enter Casco Passage that dumps us into Blue Hill Bay. Black Island, seen here, sure looks black today.
And here is another famous light house. Bass Harbor Light. It is normally seen in photos from the land side.
We have turned from eastbound to northbound and are now headed through the Western Way passage toward Mount Desert Island seen on the horizon. A lobster boat is headed to Southwest Harbor. We will follow him to get fuel.
The Heritage schooner is lying at the outer edge of the harbor.
A beautiful old yacht is anchored a ways further out.
Here we are approaching Northeast Harbor. Cadillac Mountain is the highest peak. Even in the clouds it is a sight we love to see - we missed this last year.
The harbor and rental moorings are ahead.
And here is today's "I Spy." Why is this boat anchored next to us so appropriate?
Can anybody give me a comment with the answer?
I'll give you the answer tomorrow.
The sun seems to have gone down but I can't prove it with a photo of the sunset. So you will just have to trust me that it is time to say .............
Good Night and May God Bless
