Day 6 DEYC 2019 Cruise Northeast Harbor Day 2 Thursday July 18, 2019

Day 6 DEYC 2019 Cruise Northeast Harbor Day 2 Thursday July 18, 2019

The night was mild and the sun returned nicely this morning. The wind came up from the SW at 10kts   Temperatures in the mid 70s

The sun decided to retake control of the day after yesterday's cloudy weather.

Our plan for the day was to execute a carefully timed series of coordinated activities. Well really it was simply to just start with breakfast in Bar Harbor, take a hike and go back for a movie in Bar Harbor at Reel Pizza - but the opening line sounded far more "Mission Impossible", eh?

But we did manage all three very nicely.

Here we are at our favorite restaurant in Bar Harbor - Cafe This Way. The name is from the sign that points down the nondescript street that the restaurant is located on.

Wonderful homemade hash for me and the Admiral's Blueberry pancakes were "finest kind" especially with a bottle of all you want real maple syrup. I believe this is the only place I have ever seen a bottle of real maple syrup brought to the table in all our travels.

We rode the Island Explorer bus to Jordan Pond where we began our 3.5 mile hike back to Northeast Harbor.

It is  a wonderful trail that goes through simply beautiful fir and spruce woods. It features gentle brooks and just enough elevation changes to make it feel like a good work out.

Near the end of our hike we arrived at the famous Map House that is really a open air pavilion. It has been recently rebuilt and it is fun to look at the maps of the trails that go out in five or six directions from here.

In a few minutes we arrive at Thuya Gardens. This is a wonderful place of spectacular flower gardens.  A stroll through its lovingly cared for grounds is always a special treat - and it never ceases to amaze me.

The Thuya Garden is located part way up Elliot Mountain that is located on the east side of Northeast Harbor.  Here we have stopped to sit and drink in the view of the harbor. Can you spot Perelandra? Hint - look for the blue top enclosure.

And here is the Admiral surveying the local fleet of boats.

We arrived back at the boat a little after noon. We enjoyed a few hours back on the boat before heading back to Bar Harbor to catch a movie and pizza at Reel Pizza. The pizza was good, and we ordered too much - and the Spiderman - Far From Home movie was fun. But I felt that I was watching the Disney Channel with the grandkids as in this version Spiderman is still in high school and dealing with a crush on a former Disney kids show star now in her early twenties but trying to look like a high school girl with a crush - somehow the Super Hero angle seems to have morphed in to Barbie and Ken take on the world alone - if only it were that simple.

PS:    From yesterday's post, did anyone get the significance of the boat Narnia being moored next to us?  A few, eh?  Well, the Tales of Narnia and Perelandra were both written by C.S. Lewis. Now you can sleep easy.

And speaking of sleep, it must be time to say .....................

Good Night and May God Bless
