Day 11 Somesville

Our second day here saw the poor weather that was forecast by the cloudy sunset of yesterday come to fruition today. Anticipating that it would indeed be a less than stellar hiking day, we did what all other vacationers do - we headed to town - Bar Harbor to be exact.

The day begin with catching the 9:30 bus to town. The muted colors of the dinghy dock highlighted the gray day.

There was a breeze up as well. We are actually in a perfect location as the wind is coming over the land seen to the right in the photo. That prevents the wind from creating too much of a rough condition.

The bus stop is at the Somesville Library.

We had time so we sat at the edge of the lawn and enjoyed the view.

Once in Bar Harbor we followed the sign and when that way to Cafe This Way.

It is a wonderful place for brunch - which we made it. I had eggs Benedict and a blueberry pancake that is simply one of the best ever. I was even enticed so much by the food that I failed to get a picture.

When in Rome ................ you tour the shops like everyone else. This Maine Woods store had some interesting wood related displays beginning with Bucky Beaver.

A real Maine birch bark canoe - notice the pitch on the seams.

And finally the old tree section !864 to 1994

Even in the mist the scene along the water is magical.

Here we are walking the sea wall path. If you look close you can see that the retaining wall and path has been completely redone - another victim of last winter's storms. Remember Eaton's Boatyard we saw earlier?

Perspective is everything.  Notice the float plane on the back of the private ship. Everyone sees the same water!!

And our perched boulder still remains still.

And finally it is time to take the Explorer bus back to Somesville.

The weather looks like more of the same for most of the week, so will likely stay put for several more days. If you need to hunker down somewhere - this is a great place to do it.

The clouds have brought an early night so.............

Good Night and May God Bless
