Day 16 Waterford to Scotia NY Monday June 4, 2018
Clouds and rain to start mid 55's cold. Peeks of sun at Scotia to make it feel much nicer.

Today was raining and overcast day. We wanted to move and after breakfast at Don and Paul's restaurant - a great local spot - and I mean local, we arrived back to the boat as the rain was stopping. A NYC tug was headed up Lock 2 - so we hurriedly shipped lines and fell in behind. If you look close you will see the tug at the head of the lock - it is tough to see as it is mostly dark blue.
The locks 2 thru 6 are located closely in a row. The view below is the watercourse to the next lock.
The Admiral is just not a pretty face and authority on PERELANDRA. No sir, she is an excellent line handler. In fact, to lock up you use only one line in the middle of the boat. The line is passed around a plastic covered wire that is located in vertical recesses in the wall. The line slides up the wire as you rise.
And she has a smile on her face - she says it was fun!!
The interesting contraption below is not a guillotine but a "guard gate" - I am not sure of the use but think it is for high water to stop debris getting to the locks. It is normally up.
This is I-87, and like the previous bridge in Newburgh, I have passed over this many times and said "Some day!!"
And for one of today's first "I Spy", what kind of bird is this?
And for today's second "I Spy" what lock number is ahead of us?
We ended up in Scotia NY. There is some city docks for boaters just off the Erie Canal route, but they we just installing them so we anchored just off them.
The sun made a wonderful appearance just long enough for me to take these photos.
And as an added feature for my friends big and small - here is a "Blues Clues" (you can tell I have been a grandparent, eh?). If we were listening and hear a "crack" and a loud crowd cheer, and "Run, Run!!" , what would we be next to??
Yes that is correct, a Little League field.
As I hear sounds of "Good Job" and no more cheering, the game has ended and it thus time to say,
Good Night and May God Bless.
Looks like a good day. My guess, the bird is a bald eagle and the lock is #7.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your journey,
