Day 77 The Soo for Day Too Saturday August 4, 2018

The sun peeked out this morning but clouds hung to the east remained all day and threatened showers all day - but only a sprinkle in the mid morning arrived. The clouds overnight meant that the temperature only went down to the mid 60s - good sleeping weather. The clouds did remain but temperatures still rose to the lower 70s- still in shorts!!

I will begin today's post with some shots of the locks that are so a part of the Soo City 

This was the pathfinder at the observation gallery at the locks.You can go anywhere in the world from here.

 There are two main locks. A third is operational and a fourth is out of service. Both is on the otherside of the freight in the second lock over. Note its height relative to the lock wall.

 Up all the way of 20 feet and on the way. And ever so slowly for a long time.

Headed west to Lake Superior. In the near lock is a tour boat that goes through the locks several times a day.

In keeping with the lake freighter theme, I visited the freighter on display right next door to the marina.The ship is the Valley Camp.

The ship was built in 1917 and sailed until 1966 (that to me doesn't seem that long ago but I am showing my age, eh Bren?) It is 550 feet long - and about 2/3 the length of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The inside of the ship was very interesting. Still with coal fired boilers.
