We planned to hike on Rock Island
It was a great day again with clear skies and warm temperatures but with a wonderful breeze to make it the perfect August summer day.
There is a ferry that runs from Jackson Harbor we could take. but it is only about a mile so we took our dinghy. Our fixed up dinghy I might add - as yesterday I was successful in replacing a broken motor mount bolt that made me nervous running it either great distances or at planing speed - both of which we did today.
As you read in the link, Rock Island was first a fishing community and then the playground of Chester Thordarson, inventor of electric transmission components back in the early days of mass electricity.
The island is dominated by the Viking Hall.It is an impressive structure for afar and near.
Underneath is a boat house
I was thinking that it was strange that I didn't see any big home yet. But the apparent reason was that the model of the planned resort never got built - not sure why.
The hall upstairs is quite impressive too.

After viewing the hall we hiked the 5 miles around the outer edge of the island - very nice and a great hike. Some reminders of how fortunate we are were found along the way.

It was a great day
So time to say
Good Night and May God Bless
