Day 114 Paris Landing to Birdsong Creek Monday September 10 2018

Day 114 Paris Landing to Birdsong Creek  Monday September 10 2018

The clouds of yesterday stayed over night but the rain stopped. The clouds were around until late afternoon when some breaks appeared. Temperatures were in the comfortable low 60s to low 70s. The cool night was great for sleeping.

Today was a nice ride of about 52 miles. The river is still very beautiful even in the grey light of a cloudy day. There were locations where there was no development and then pockets of homes along the shore. We both remarked at how empty the houses seemed - including nary a boat tied to the nearly universal floating pier/patio at each river front home. We guessed that kids going back to school here has the same effect of calling out "End of Summer" as it does back in New England. It still seems funny to think we are boating for many months ahead when normally we would be just about to move the boat to NH for winter storage - I like the current situation - I am still in shorts!!

We passed a stark reminder of the changes that have happened on the river since the building of the dams.  There are a number of "historical" points referenced on the charts that were once landings or islands pre-dam days. One is the Danville Freight house that protrudes starkly and strangely out of the Tennessee River. Here's an interesting web page. Danville Abandoned Freight House

We arrived at Birdsong Creek around 1300. It is a nice tributary for several miles ending at a marina. Our anchorage was just inside the creek entrance. Some shots are provided below.

Looking east and out to the main river.

Looking west from our anchorages.

Now you can really see that we are looking west.

As we arrived early we had an enjoyable afternoon. A little NFL Football please. We watched the Pats hold off  the Texans - nice start to season.

Dinner was chicken and salad and small white potatoes - yum!

The sun is going down earlier with each day/night ...... it is now dark at 2000.

So it is time to say.....

Good night and May God Bless
