Day 116 Clifton to Grand Harbor Marina Wednesday September 12, 2018

Broken clouds today with some nice periods of sun. Comfortable temperatures in the low 60s to high 70s. A cool night was great for sleeping.

Yesterday was remembrance of a man made disaster, today is one of waiting for one in the form of hurricane Florence that will hit the Carolina coast tomorrow. The predicted wind is bad but the storm surge and rainfall for flooding is forecast to be catastrophic. Ironically, I just realized that we are only a few miles from Florence, TN the city that is. The forecasts are indicating that we will not see any major events from this storm. Still tuned y'all.

Today was a very nice day. I thought it was to be only about 40 miles but I somehow lost the fact that we would be traveling nearly 55 miles today - but we made it just fine - even with one lock to pass up through. More on that later.

The day started out cloudy and became a nice partly cloudy day (or partly sunny if you prefer - not sure why it is never described that way). We have seen some real nice houses and started off today with some more.

But there was also really beautiful sections of the river as well.

The thing that still amuses us is the houses being built on stilts against the high water. The structures look so massive until you see that one and maybe two stories are fashioned to be flooded. Thus the lower floors are configured to place things that can be moved.

This is a shot of the river approaching Pittsburgh Landing and the Shiloh Civil War battlefield site.

And just before it is Hagy's "Catfish Hotel" restaurant - a local landmark seen here.

This is Pittsburgh Landing - Grant used the Tennessee River to get his army to Shiloh.

The river banks are lower a short distance up river - this area must flood often.

And we have arrived at Pickwick Lock.
This is after we have been raised up 55 feet - and our lock luck is continuing as we drove straight in and was up and out in 25 minutes

Just passed the lock is Pickwick Lake - a very beautiful body of water. With the expanse of water comes the expanse of mega homes. I know the photo doesn't do it justice but zoom in to see some of the huge places.
I dubbed this place "The Hamptons at Pickwick"

Just up the lake a mile or so. Our stop and Grand Harbour marina is just up past the point on the right.

The marina has a courtesy car - let's go to Hagy's for dinner!!.  And here we are standing on the spot in the photo of the place above. Thought this would be neat to have shots from both perspectives.

 Here's the restaurant.

And here's the story - which I found interesting. And why the "Catfish Hotel" moniker.

And this is a reproduction of the "Catfish Hotel"

It was a nice day that has morphed into a nice night, soooo........  time to say

Good Night and May God Bless
