Day 4 July Cruise Dix Island to Warren Island Sunday July 19, 2020

Day 4 July Cruise  Dix Island to Warren Island Sunday July 19, 2020

The night was mild and the wind calmed  to a breeze.  The sun was filtered through a high bank of clouds most of the day. Temperatures rose to a wonderful high seventies.

The Muscle Ridge Channel continues from Dix Island to Owls Head. The Owls Head Light (below) marks the north entrance to the Channel but is more importantly a guide for entering Rockland that is to west beyond the light.

Always love the view of the Camden Hills

The Vinalhaven ferry heading out from Rockland.

Our pleasant and easy ride took us to Warren Island. We have shown it here in other blogs as it is one of our favorite places. The State of Maine owns the island and it has wonderful campsites. It is only accessible by boat so the use is limited. But we were surprised to see a rather large number of campers - probably as it is a great place to social distance in a marvelous place.

It is always interesting to be here at low tide. The change of scene from the rise and fall of the water is was sets it apart from the Great Lakes.

We met a camper Courtney who was from Georgtown - where our Robinhood Marina is located - small world at times. She was kind enough to take our picture.

Warren Island is only about a half a mile long and less than that across. So it is an easy walk around the whole island.

As you can see we walked some of the distance along the shore and then some on the path along the edge of the island.

We met a couple, Jeff and Lori, from Bucks Harbor. They were flying the Great Loop flag so we said hello to fellow Loopers. It turns out that they are planning to start this fall (maybe) with a trip south then start the Loop next spring. We joined them on their boat for a visit and told them they will be having a great time on their adventure. Like us they are former sailboaters that figured that to do any distance boating that a powerboat was needed to make the trip comfortable.  It was fun recalling our trip while sharing our experience with them.

So another day has past on the Maine Coast so time to say ............

Good Night and May God Bless
