Day 8 & 9 August Cruise Seal Bay to Isle Au Haut to Pickering Cove Wednesday and Thursday August 19 & 20, 2020

The last two days have been wonderful end of summer days. Cool and crisp air - warm enough for short sleeves out of the ocean breezes and dry.  Cool evenings - we even put the fleece blanket back on the bed.

On Wednesday we arose to a wonderful bright sky at Seal Bay.

Before we left this wonderful place we wanted to hike the whole of Huber Preserve.  It was a very nice walk.

OK my "I SPY" friends, here is one for you. I spied this very fresh looking mackerel about a half a mile from the water. What is you guess as to how it got here. Well, I will note that I heard an eagle in trees not far from here. My guess is an eagle or osprey lost it on the way back to its local sushi hangout.

And I have found another island with a single lonely tree that I will need to check on next year.

And here we are crossing Jericho Bay and headed for Isle au Haut.

The Kimball Point Lighthouse at the entrance to the harbor.

We found one of three rental moorings and were able to go ashore. This is a real working island with minimal tourist activity. They do have a nice island store that we were able to replenish the larder.

And the post office is substantial

Main Street - watch out for cars or the ever popular pickup trucks

This is Linda Greenlaw's lobster boat

A wonderful sunset. There were cloud bands with a few showers to the north of us that left a few friendly clouds in our neighborhood.

In the morning on Thursday it was time to take a walk to Kimball Lighthouse

View of Vinalhaven to the west

And then we traveled through Merchant Row - the wonderful cluster of islands between Isle au Haut and Deer Isle.

A glorious view of  the Mount Desert mountains.

Our destination was Pickering Cove on the southeast end of Deer Isle. We had never stopped here before and there is a trail system of the Edgar M Tennis preserve right along the west edge of the cove.

Future Loopers Jeff and Lori who we had met earlier at Warren Island and again at Isle Au Haut joined us for a wonderful stop and hike around the preserve.

There were about five miles of trails we explored for a large part of the afternoon.

Edgar M Tennis and family are buried at the Toothacher cemetery on the preserve.

Now that is a big root ball.

The light of the sun has again seeped out of the sky - so time to say ............

Good Night and May God Bless
