Today was a beautiful day to be on the water. We had a rather short but pleasant run from Northeast Harbor to Somesville as you can see on the map below. Somes sound is the cut in the heart of Mount Desert. Our distance traveled was only about eight miles - but a marvelous eight miles it was.
The most amazing feature of the ride is Valley Cove that is on the left and is at the foot of Mount St Saveur.
Here is Valley Cove. I have never seen so many boats anchored here.
If you look close you can see a cluster of masts. About thirty boats have created a daisy anchor formation. All the boats form a circle and are tied side to side. Typically there are boats anchored on the four compass points to stabilize the formation. It only works on a perfect day of which this is one.
Moving up Somes sound.
Approaching Somesville at the head of the sound.
Entering Somesville Harbor.
I forgot to take a photo once anchored - I will tomorrow,
We had planned to go to an Acadia Repertory Theater play tonight but a passing front ruled that out. As the rain is to pass by quickly, and tomorrow is to be nice, we will stay another day and go to the matinee tomorrow instead. We plan to take the early bus into Bar Harbor for breakfast.
So as the falling rain brings darkness early, it is time to say ...........
Good Night and May God Bless
