Day 87 Jackson Harbor to Fish Creek WI Tuesday August 14, 2018

The clear sky remained and another glorious day. The breeze from the southwest remained over night that kept the temperatures in the upper  60s. The breeze stayed up all day and the temperatures rose to the mid 80s. A great day for hiking - again

We departed Jackson Harbor around 0800. The couple on the sailboat next to us helped us get away. They told us that their mooring is in Fish Creek and we could use it if we wanted. So to Fish Creek it is.

The ride was fine with the 1 to 2 foot seas being mostly on the starboard bow. It was so funny to have spray come up that dried without leaving salt deposits - or anything else for that matter.

We arrived in Fish Creek around noon and after finding the mooring, we geared up of a hike in the adjacent Peninsula Park. It was a nice hike of about 5 miles.



About the mid point we were treated to a wonderful overlook that I had seen on the way by from the boat. I was hoping that we could reach it and we did - Sven's Bluff



A cyclist was kind enough to take our photo.


 As the day was rather warm, showers felt so refreshing before our trip to town.

This is the main town dock.


 Alibi marina is next door with many slips.

 The activity of the town is along - yes - Main Street.

 This store was in the center of the town and turned out to be rather nice with nice clothes and not a tee shirt in the place. We even found a fridge magnet for Peninsula Park.

 It was late afternoon and we were ready for dinner - there is a reason that Florida has early bird specials for all the old folks - many of us are ready to eat early so we have time to digest before our early bedtime.

We had heard about the famous Fish Boils of Fish Creek - a good combination, eh?
Faye was not keen on the idea and said she would go but only if they other things on the menu.

So we found Pelletier's Fish Boil.


 And as it turns out that is exactly what they do.

Here is white fish cut into steaks

 The large pot is heated with wood and potatoes go in first, then onions, and finally the fish.

After the fish is cooked about ten minutes it is done, but a heavy oily film is on the water. To not have to pull up the food through that, kerosene is used to flash a hot fire and the pot 'boils over' vigorously. Fortunately I brought my video camera and was about to get freeze frames of the rather robust flare up and boil over that happens in about 5 seconds.

And here is the finished dinner. I am pleased to say that the Admiral had the fish. And not only that, while I expected her to at least pass me one of her pieces of fish, she ate the whole plate full - and finished before I did. Well done young lady!! I really was glad she enjoyed it. It was pretty tasty - and I will admit that I was only interested to do it so we could say "we did it" - cause I didn't think it would be that good either!


After dinner we walked to the end of Main Street and a park aptly named Sunset Park.



And as the sun has now actually set, it is time to say .................
