The temperature stayed warm. The day was beautiful and sunny with a nice breeze. Temps in high 80s.

The Olmstead Lock is a new under construction lock a short ways up the Ohio River. This weekend the lock area is closed until Tuesday for commercial traffic. I called yesterday and was told that I may be able to get through the area on Sunday. So we decided to make use of a forecast nice day to travel a marathon distance of 150 miles. It turned out to be a good day - even if a long ride.
Just after the start of the day some nice homes are perched on the bluff.
Still a few bluffs around
Sun was beautiful.
Driving Miss Faye. Sitting back
The way that we were able to make 150 miles was the current runs 5 mph so we traveled over the ground around 12 to 15 knots - you can see the current on the buoys below.
The day was simply beautiful. And as you may have noticed - there is NO development over nearly all of the way to Cairo. We were amazed and pleased. And the interesting thing there is NO more locks on the Mississippi to the Gulf.
This is Giradeau - one of two significant settlements of the 150 miles!!
And there was still a fair number of barges - but with the river so wide they were much less a concern than on the Illinois. This is a big barge and tow boat. Notice the three engines - few have more than two.
Notice the twisting route of the river - it turns like a snake
Thought we were suppose to be going south - what's with this - North?
And our anchorage is nicely off the main part of the river and the current is just enough to hold us in position. Thought it would be a good end of the post to show the sunrise and then the sunset.
And so it is time to say ......................
Good Night and May God Bless
