Day 129 Pole Line Cove to Head of Little Tennessee Tuesday September 25, 2018

Day 129  Pole Line Cove to Head of Little Tennessee Tuesday September 25, 2018

Clouds and rain stayed overnight. It looked like rain and clouds would be around all day but the clouds broke and the sun came out to give us a beautiful day in the hills.

We woke to more rain and were greatly disappointed that our trip up the Little Tennessee might not be as visually dramatic as we had hoped. But contrary to the forecast the clouds continued to break up and by the end of the day we had blue sky and the view we had traveled so far to see.

The Little Tennessee comes straight out of the Great Smokey mountains. Our objective for the day was the head of navigation in the foothills of the mountains. We did have to endure more rich tenement housing development. But the development did peter out after a while.

As the clouds began to break up the hills began to show up. We decided to get some drone photos as the forecast was for the clouds to come back and take over again

We made it to the anchorage and the day was now very nice. The drone was again a great way to see the surrounding. The first one below is looking south into the mountains. The end of the river is up and to the left in the photo.

This is looking up river also

Looking back at the boat and our anchorage. Behind the boat is the way we came.

This is looking west

This is looking nearly at the head of navigation. A dam is just around the corner. You see a road in left side of the photo.  This is Route 129 that goes up into the mountains. It is now famous for all its twists and turns and has acquired the name Dragon Tail route.

We dinghyed up the river and just around the bend we saw a magnificient eagle

And  little ways up there is, can you believe it, a Harley-Davidson shop that is a must stop for any biker (and there are a good number) traveling the Devils Tail.

The little Tennessee was dammed in 1979. Some reviews of the anchorage I have seen reference the old volley ball net - and we found it. It is on the edge of was once the river bed (the end of the island is really the old river bank). So I guess that it is possible that it has been there for all these years. We are anchored very near it.

The sunset was very nice as you can see.

As well as the moonrise.

So you can see that we have had a great day and great evening. So it is time to say ....................

Good Night and May God Bless
